Pops and Bangs
Discussion
Might as well attempt to even things up - I love it. Even despite being in my forties and completely aware that it is 100% artifice I just don’t care. The bangs on upshifts especially so. Joyous.
I switch back to normal mode through towns, so at least I only really look like a berk when nobody is looking.

I think it’s quite well judged: enough noise in Sport mode to add to the character and presence of the car, yet pretty refined and civilised in normal mode. Love it.
I'll be up for this please.
However; since i restricted the internal resonator, routing induction noise into the cab, it made a huge difference.
here is my write-up:
Another mod that will no doubt send shivers down some owners spinesshout
10mm socket to undo the plastic housing of the resonator from the rear bulkhead, inside the engine compartment. 9mm socket to release the attached intake rubber pipe. I simply cut a piece of high density foam and pushed it inside the plastic housing butting up against its internal wall, it is totally secure and cannot go any further. after re attaching the resonator to the bulkhead and then its intake pipe that's it!
Very simple procedure but what a difference it makes; suits me but wont for everyone.

+2 I think it adds character without being over the top and like Nick I switch to normal in town and around where we live.I switch back to normal mode through towns, so at least I only really look like a berk when nobody is looking.

Done this on mine, as posted previously. For my taste it's a HUGE improvement and took 10 minutes to do, or undo, with no cost.
Still have the pops and bangs, which do add a bit of character in Sport. I would prefer them gone.
I'd rather not have the pops & bangs, but this is way down my list of things that annoy me.
I'm mostly in Normal mode at the moment as I'm still running in, & I find it easier to see how many revs I'm doing. Perhaps the pops & bangs will annoy me if begin using Sport mode more.
I may as well have a moan about the dashboard displays, now you've got me thinking about it: The rev counter in Normal mode is terrible. The rev counter in Sport mode is even worse. Haven't the dashboard development team ever driven a Porsche? Keen drivers want a great big rev counter with a full length pointer on the dial, that can be seen & interpreted with a millisecond glance. A stupid little LED representation of the last tiny bit of a traditional rev counter pointer, which is aiming at the brightly lit rim of the LED rev counter dial, is completely rubbish.
& the car is equipped with three different dash board configurations, but I can't choose between them: If I want to drive the car in Normal mode, I'm forced to look at dashboard configuration number one; if I want to drive in Sport mode, I'm forced to use number two. How difficult would it have been to give me the choice of the three dashboards, irrespective of the driving mode?
& why can't I configure my own dashboard from a list of options? Surely this would be easy to offer. When I bought my first Tom Tom sat nav, almost two decades ago, I could configure the screen - add in the things I wanted & make them prominent, & get rid of the information I didn't want to see. A configurable display would have been a very low cost way to make the car even more of a pleasure to use.

I agree with this - the UI is terrible. I use sport mode almost exclusively, as I prefer the layout to the other. It is unnecessary that the layout changes with the modes. I would argue that the differences in layout require additional cognitive load to locate and process the data (this is part of my job, designing usable systems)All three displays leave a lot to be desired. Why can't I have an engine temperature "dial" in Normal. I'd like the Normal rev counter in Sport - and why do I get lumbered with a torque and power display - when I'd much prefer a decent sized clock. I never use the analogue speedo so why can't the real estate be used for something more useful. Track mode is just a bit bizarre. Just one mildly configurable display would make more sense.

Or just a set of analogue dials Liam22 said:
Agree with the comments about a central, full-needle tacho.
I'm trying to train myself to use the little "horizontal squares" rev counter in Sport so that I can enjoy Track mode. As it is, I'm getting better at going on the engine sound and ignoring the dash.
I'm on this page and other than keeping an eye on temps and speed rarely find the need to use the rev counter, invariably I short shift anyway even when pushing on due to the nature of the power delivery.I'm trying to train myself to use the little "horizontal squares" rev counter in Sport so that I can enjoy Track mode. ....... significant thread drift happening here?
Just a little, but a word in gentle defence of the dash layout...Starting from nothing, big central tacho seems ideal - although in reviving the brand, the designers obviously leaned heavily on the 'heritage' aspects, and for better or worse, the instrument layout itself is supposed to ape the '5 dial' binnacle of the original A110:
I'm not saying that is a high water mark in instrument design or legibility, but it's one of what, two, maybe three interior motifs carried into the new car?
I do think they could've done even more with the layout given the flexibility of a TFT screen though (even as little as adding the middle part of the tacho 'needle' as one of the scrolling options?), and adding further layouts via software updates feels like a fun/useful/inexpensive way to maintain satisfaction/delight. I say that having zero understanding of the type approval requirements of such stuff however.
Back on topic, I make it 6-4 in favour of no pops/bangs so far.
