Edit to update: got quoted £860 for new discs and pads at my 13,000 mile second service with Alpine St Albans / Glynn Hopkin). Declined this, just had the oil and filter, turbo inlet recall done and left it at that. (£380)

Measured the discs once home: 27.6mm. I’m assuming the discs (320mm) are 28mm standard - does this sound like an acceptable margin to try selling me new discs at? Not hugely impressed…

Min thickness is 25.4mm for a typical 320mm disc, not always the easiest to measure discs as there is usually a lip.

Discs can range from £100 (https://www.bremboparts.com/europe/en/catalogue/renault-clio-iv-bh-1-6-rs-trophy-bhj4-bhj6/000112058-1?producttypes=Disc,UpgradeDisc) upto £1000's, the alpine OEM ones aren't great in my opnion, a lot of people get pad deposits on them (see FAR forum). I've taken mine off and put some High Carbon Bembos on to see if they behave better and getting my OEM discs skimmed to try and get them back to not juddering all over the place when i brake.

Loads of pads here: https://www.k-tecracing.com/search.asp?catid=6

I've just done front discs and brakes in about 1hour, its a very simple job.

Edit to add that oil and filter is also a 1hr job thats fairly easy except for the 25ish bolts you need to unscrew on the undertray. Oil and filter is about £50 in parts.

Interesting reply Juffled.

Are you saying the 320mm Brembo discs in your link, for the Clio RS, are a direct replacement for the A110 fronts (without the Alpine logo!)?

Yes they fit, anything with the bolt pattern, diameter of 320mm and offset/height of 44 will fit. The clio 3/4 RS uses the same front brakes and hub arrangement. The brake Disc is literally the same with the word renaultsport as opposed to alpine on the bell.

The rear is the same disc as the front, the calliper is different and i haven’t worked out which brake pad shape it is yet.

Thanks Juffled for all the info, really useful. I looked into doing the oil & filter myself although caved and ended up just getting the stamp...but after the amount of things they thought they could mug me with I kind of wish I hadn't bothered now.
I've had the tray off before to change the exhaust tip anyway and it wasn't a bother, so now I know for next time.

More than happy doing brakes myself. Does anyone bar K-Tech offer a 2-part rotor for a 320mm / 28 / 44 / 5 bolt that you know of? Seems a nice way to save a lot of unsprung weight on car so focused on lightness.

You could try these people. I haven't found time to approach them yet, but when I get my work/life balance under control, I'm intending to ask them about having a set of aluminium belled discs made up to replace my all steel small discs. So far as I understand, you give them the spec' & they make the discs for you. They look like they could be better than the Alpine OE 320s. If you get in touch with them, please let us all know how you get on.

I've not really looked, if you just look for clio 3/4 RS stuff with the 320mm diameter, it should fit, you can confirm by asking the offset/height as the bolt pattern will be the same.

I've gone Brembo HC (bog standard) as for anything track related basically plain discs with high carbon is what you want. Anything else is a compromise unless you have £££ to spend on AP racing basically.

Girodisc look good but cant find UK supplier, Tarox will likely do something for the Clio RS, Godspeed are UK based and may do something for them.

Just to clarify the RS Clio 3 and 4 have different size front brake discs, 312 and 320mm respectively. So if you want an alternative to A110 big brakes the Clio IV discs are what is needed. The Clio 4 however doesn't use Brembo so not sure about the pads. The Clio 3 does use Brembo so they may fit?

Very useful comment ref the brake judder, I had this on a recent fast road Euro tour, pretty hard brake use (for the road) which I did wonder if it was pad deposits on the discs. Interestingly it did eventually wear off in the end, I was wondering if upgraded pads would help, can’t say they ever faded (road only) but the judder isn’t a very satisfying feeling. I also need to try Life110’s hoses to improve feel ?

Please don't use this video as a guide for brake disc/pad/caliper replacement - he doesn't know what he's doing.

Just to add some more info if it is of any use. I’m on 38k miles on original brakes and pads. I haven’t tracked the car but I drive it enthusiastically. On third set of boots all round

That's really impressive on brakes you must be quite a smooth driver. The tyre wear is a bit less impressive, at ~12k miles per year that's a full set annually, although perhaps if you're driving is mostly enthusiastic and not much daily pottering it's not quite as bad.

Just to update, the Brembo EAN (8020584056998) for the RS Clio Mk3 brake pads is the same as for the A110, so it would be RS Clio mk4 discs (320mm) and RS Clio mk3 pads as a direct replacement.

I'm not sure if the Clio IV discs would be suitable for the rear pads which have a larger depth than the front.

FYI the discs have 'min 26mm' stamped into the bell. I changed my rears on the weekend at 32k, discs were at 26.7mm. NSR pads had worn very unevenly, inboard pad had around 5mm left while outboard was nearly down to the backing!

Front discs were 27mm and pads just over half worn so they've stayed on.
