Hi Folks,

Brit living out in France - I am very lucky to have just bought a 2019 Legende.

I contacted Alpine France asking if they could provide any service history / recall information. I was met with a response telling me that information was private to Alpine and that the previous owner should have given me all the info. They have suggested i visit my nearest Alpine Centre - that is Bordeaux over 2 hours away.

I understand that the service history is all held on line - How do you go about getting the history over in the UK ? Does Alpine UK assist or is it a case of asking at the Alpine centre ? I also assume its wrapped up with data protection and GDPR.

Hi Pete, a Legende in France? Doubly lucky!

That's a very odd response. I have not done this with Alpine, but have sourced reproduction service history books for two separate cars in the past - this was no more arduous than requesting it from a main dealer plus paying a few quid*. Obviously it is limited to service operations done by the main dealer network but for a 2019 car this should be the case.

GDPR needn't come into it, for it's just a list of dates, mileages and technical operations - identifiable only to the car, not to any individual. Can't quite grasp how they could see it any other way?

(*I say that but Audi did go to the lengths of posting a book from Portsmouth to Wolverhampton to get the proper dealer stamps, which I eventually appreciated biggrin)

Surely they are not still using service books. Most brands have been digital for quite a few years now

Well yes - that is how manufacturers and dealers record it all internally. Every car still comes with a paper handbook with a service section which can be stamped - and that's the (anonymous) bit that tends to stay with the car. It isn't the master source of information of course, but if filled in and kept with the car tells any future owner most of what they need to know. Perhaps I'm an old sod - definitely still something I value.

In the course of obtaining that Audi service book, Audi UK were able to tell me service dates and operations over the phone (at that time). Struggle to see why any NSC of any manufacturer couldn't do the same. Meeting a dealer rep tomorrow, I'll try to remember to ask.
