I've spent the morning prepping the car for a trip to Yerkshire next week which included filling up from nigh on empty. 43.14 litres of BP ultimate at £1.699 p/l led to a bill of £73.29! Imagine running something that isn't frugal like the little Frenchie.

Cor! That's a whopper. I can't be alone in feeling like a ~40l tank should be no more than £50 to fill... biggrin

Far be it from me to start a 'best mpg' thread about a sportscar, but if you feel like maxxing that investment, you have 42.8 mpg to beat (achieved driving up to Queensferry during the midst of the fuel 'shortages' last year, and a record I have no intention of bettering laugh)

That’s the going rate around here but at least I get esso 99% no ethanol for that 169.9…

Slightly more painful in wife’s car with a 95l tank!

A friend of mine has a Jensen Interceptor. Lovely car but MPG is a bit eye watering, he doesn't care as it doesn't do a huge mileage.

My Caterham easily does 40mpg+ when touring.

I imagine fuelling something like that atm will be comically expensive.

Whilst travelling through Germany last week I decided to treat my Pure to some of Aral's finest 102 at the bargain price of €2.20 (£1.85) a litre!

Could you tell the difference? My car certainly prefers 99 to 95 .

I was running in the car and 102 went in at about 1,000 miles after 99 up to that point. No discernible difference tbh, although very much "non sporty driving" per the manual!

£1.759 a litre today to fill up after the trip to C&M.
Another benefit of the Alpine being frugal

Squeezed a belting £81.97 of Esso's finest into it the other day, at a mind boggling £2.059/l weeping

And while I joked at the time, I (well, with my Mum's help) just managed 46.3 mpg both on the way-to and back-from the highlands (calculated, dash read 47.6). bowtie

I find the difference (95-99) is actually at low revs - pick up is noticeably better (PE).

I put £83 in the other day of Shell's finest @ £2.09 a litre cry

That said, I was using it for a lot of fairly mundane trips just because it's my most frugal car, 48mpg going up to C&M and back from Winchester!

Damn it Alex, beat me on both counts laugh

I was already certain that 46.3 could be beaten (based on some 'enthusiastic' driving from both Mum and myself), but your 48 has added to my determination. (Yes yes, that's boring/it's a sports car/etc, but as I live one tank of fuel away from the highlands, it's a self contained challenge. And I'll take any excuse to return.)

I'm pretty sure that 50 (indicated) is possible. I had 49.6 on a trip from the West country - plenty of 50 limited roads (with little overtaking) and 50 limited motorway sections. I was really really trying to be economical - if I can't have fun I try to entertain myself with economical driving, it's a skill of sorts.

I've had £80 in a few times. At the moment that's twice a week, but it's worth it!

2 weeks ago, driving back from a visit to the UK.
My first comment is in regard to the fuel gauge ... it was telling me i had 70 km left and my planned service stop was now only 25km away. Next thing i see is -- on the 'distance remaining' - turned off the air con and declared an emergency to my unimpressed OH. confused
We got to the services with the gauge in the red (but not firmly at the bottom) - refuelled at 2.32 EUR - about 2 GBP per litre.

Has anyone else had a fuel gauge panic and i am wondering how far further i would have got (not going to try it).

I wonder if that's a Renault thing.

On my Duster is goes from 50 to --. It's a bit disconcerting.

I have the same behavior on my A110. The fuel gauge shows something like 75 km left and very soon afterwards starts showing ---left. I haven't tried how far I would get and I have just assumed that there is still fuel left for another 70 km or so. I think that I have driven something like 20 km after the ---left message has appeared on the dash.

Yes, it 'declines to comment' under ~35 miles (or ~70km it seems). Not that useful, I assume it's derriere covering.

On the occasions I've run it close to the point it stops commenting, I've 'just' added the range figure to the trip mileage in my head for an idea of how far I might be able to go. But this is still something else to concentrate on, so I tend to fill up before it occurs.

Stops showing after 25mi for me. I've filled up after ~27mi and managed just a touch over 44 liters, so basically empty. Seems mostly accurate but just very annoying how it disappears!

I've also noticed that the sport/track mode shows a more accurate gauge. Normal mode will sit on "empty" for a long time before the range "---" appears, whereas sport/track will show a small red bar until it's truly empty.
