I’m due to travel tomorrow evening on a ferry and am not sure I follow the alarm setting instructions for transit in the alarm instructions pamphlet that came with my car.

I’ve sussed out that the volumetric alarm can be disabled by a long press of the lock button on the key card. When you do this the car emits 3 beeps to confirm it’s disabled.

What I’m not sure about is whether the A110 (UK spec) also has an anti-lift alarm fitted. If it does, then the alarm instructions refer to turning the instrument panel on and off 3 x in quick succession by pressing the stop/start button, locking the car and then 4 beeps emitted to confirm deactivation. Here’s the problem, if I press the stop/start button, the instrument panel switches on but subsequent presses do not switch it off. Maybe I need to remove the passenger side panel trim to reveal the card reader and insert the keycard 3 x in quick succession.

Has anyone been worked this out on their car? I really don’t want to risk the alarm going off on an overnight ferry and the resulting flat battery, any help greatly appreciated.

Use the locking by the interior switch function instead of the car card buttons.
But make sure you have the key out the car.
Basically, stop the car, open a door, and while it’s open, hold down the interior locking switch on the piano bar , doors will and unlock straight away, but keep it held down I until you hear it lock again , then get out and shut the door.
Car will be locked with no alarm functions enabled.
It’s in the handbook somewhere but this is basically what you do.

Hope hay makes sense?

Thanks AlpineGuy, I think you have saved the day! I’ve just tried your suggestion and then, for good measure, jacked the car up and it did not set the alarm off. I guess using the centre lock button in the way you describe activates the locks without activating the alarm.

If anyone else managed to follow the alarm instructions and get the anti lift deactivation to work without the alternative approach outlined by AlpineGuy, please post.

Apologies for bringing back an old topic but I assume this method was okay for you? I previously tried everything you suggested (as in the alarm manual) to no avail and therefore left it unlocked on my last trip years ago, but the option of using the interior lock button seems like a great hack if not by design (i.e no alarm enabled but fully locked). Tested in the garage but without being able to jack the car up and it all seemed to work, so assuming this is the method you used and all okay?

Thanks!

Just to confirm this works - tried it today on the Mallaig to Armadale crossing (which was choppy enough to set many, many alarms off). yuck

Was rather less pleased with being parked right up front and getting showered with sea water. Made haste to a jet wash after disembarking… irked

(Moral of the story - never be a dork and turn up early to anything)

Just spotted this resurrected and can confirm I have used the hold down interior central locking switch hack a number of times on North Sea ferries and all OK.

Thank you both - great news!
