BTW, I finally got my car. The registration process by a third party took 2,5 weeks after delivery, so the dealer gave me for compensation an S over the weekend with unlimited mileage.
Being honest, I am more than happy with my decision to buy a standard. The S is for my taste way too noisy inside and the ride too harsh.
The pops and bangs in Sports or Track mode sound much better and less artificial with my standard exhaust. The pop pop pop comes from the rear of the car and does not sound like someone is banging on the roof like in the S or GT.
And the standard sound system is better than expected. The S I drove even had the Focal Premium with subwoofer and I still was missing a decent base. I guess the alloy chassis and little sound insulation of the A110 cannot enable a better sound inside the cabin. Maybe when standing still inside your garage.
Only thing I might miss in the future are the extra 20 Nm and 50 hp.

Never, ever pay big bucks for "optional extras" on the basis of supposed resale value. It's the salesman's favourite trick. They always depreciate faster than the car to which they're attached.

Find a car that suits your wants/needs and then just add the things you'll really get benefit from. In my case this typically means rudimentary stuff like parking sensors/cameras and a decent stereo.

If there's something you want, just pay for it with the car. Aftermarket add-ons just cheapen any vehicle.
I’m considering getting the base model, but keeping if for a long time, and adding some life upgrades + other along the way.
I’m very concerned about budget Creep, as was actually considering one of the last Jcw f56 mini so already heading towards squeaky bum time, equally I don’t want to live with a compromised car for 5 years as it will be my daily driver, kids left home, and I have a track car already.

the example I gave of the camera was via a vw/audi specialist using oem parts, not something fixed with gaffa tape from alibaba… getmecoat

I have modified all my previous cars to some extent to enhance the factory offering, and Strongly contest that fitting Lotus Evora premium leather Recaro seats have somehow “cheapened” my “fun-car”

Sometimes factory options don’t offer “good value” and if you buy second hand you soon realise you have a long wait if your only ever interested in a car the matches the exact way you would have configured it.

I picked up a new stock car which had what was my ideal factory spec - Fuchs, 320mm brakes, active sports exhaust, Focal sound and rear sensors. I've since experimented with a few OEM mods, namely heated GT seats and 17" wheels with 296mm brakes. I've also driven an S a good few times now, so have gotten to know many of the options available for longer than the usual dealership test drives.

If I were to now spec from scratch, I would go for the original base car with small wheels and brakes, adding only Focal sound and rear sensors.

I'd agree that factory options do not impact residuals - they will often make a car easier to sell though

Saying aftermarket add-ons just cheapen any vehicle is a very sweeping statement - Temu tat will, Life110 will not
