Has anyone got one? I think they look quite cool. I have read that they are very economical but I am guessing this would be around town in slow traffic?
90% of the time I am on the motorway/ dual carriage way so if I gone it’s just running on a petrol engine then.
I do fancy one as my next car but I do 20k miles for work so another diesel might be the better choice. Although I don’t fancy spending big on a diesel in the current climate.
A curve ball would be a Lexus ES I went in a few on holiday as taxis and I was very impressed. Although much more expensive than a Corolla also possibly a bit big for me I prefer a smaller car. Current daily is a 225k diesel a3!

I have one (well I did until last week when it was written off) in Excel trim. I do 70 miles a day, 30K a year and it's mainly motorway. I would get 56mpg indicated but likely closer to 53mpg, which is fantastic. Around the doors would be closer to 65-70mpg as it used the electric a lot more.
In comparison I had a 2.0 VW TDI before it and got 55mpg so next to nowt in it - cost of diesel meant the Corolla was cheaper to run and own. The 1.8 is the one for frugality, and the 2.0 for speed but you do sacrifice mpg.
I absolutely loved mine, it looked cool, it went well and cost me next to nowt to run. It lacked Carplay but bluetooth connected 7 times out of 10 so was never really that much of an issue for me.
I'd have another in a heartbeat but I then did more calculations and it turned out an ID3 would be even cheaper for my commute so I've opted for one of those with the insurance payout.

I have one as an estate. It’s brilliant as the family car and proven very reliable so far (touches wood).
It will use full electric up to 80mph or something, but mostly on the flat or slightly downhill. We easily get over 60mpg on longer trips, it’s not just economical around town.
The software is a bit basic but I only use CarPlay so that doesn’t bother me. The older cars didn’t come with this as standard but it can be added with a software update at the dealer.

That’s a good point about range, my a3 probably has a range of 600 miles and that’s a big advantage with my driving. I usually fill up 520-550ish miles though.
I suppose something might be better suited for the task but I am leaning towards a hybrid instead of diesel. (Although diesel is ideal but for how long?)
It doesn’t need to be fun (I have an Exige for that) just cheap to run, easy and reliable. Was thinking £10-15k but for a nice Corolla probably looking at £20k.

The braking for the regenerative braking sounds like something I will need to learn. For as long as I have driven I have always tried to plan and stay off the brakes as much as possible!
As I’ve found, letting off the throttle and coasting took a little bit of getting used to but it is well worth it. You will quickly pick it up though. I find myself looking way beyond where I used to to preempt stopping over a longer distance. Actually adds to a far more relaxed drive. The braking for the regenerative braking sounds like something I will need to learn. For as long as I have driven I have always tried to plan and stay off the brakes as much as possible!
I'm also looking at one of these (Touring Sports 2.0) as family car in next few months.
I'm probably going to end up with one north of 50k on it for my budget but as long as it's been serviced, my plan is to keep it for around 10 years, who knows more if I become attached.
My driving style is quite relaxed so from everything I've read this would suit nicely. 95% of my use will be local back and forths less than 5 miles and couple of weekly commutes, again these are short too, about 10 miles total.
I did want the extra oomph though that the 2.0 offers, I'm getting sick of the lack of dynamism my 115hp Astra offers on a motorway - plus it'll be useful for fully loaded family camping trips.

I'm looking at one of these too, the 2.0 touring.
I'm not sure if it's worth getting the 2023+ with the more powerful engine and updated hybrid system. It narrows the pool of available cars quite a bit but from what I can see it's quicker (not by much) but has better consumption. Also has improved infotainment.

I had a suzuki swace which was basically a corolla in drag.
Easily got 65mpg in mixed driving and when put in sport it went pretty well but its not exciting at all and being a late 2024 model it had the mandatory speed limit recognition system which was both annoying and woefully innaccurate.
it was that bad that i managed to cancel the lease after about 6 weeks because it really was that annoying even when reduced as low as it would go. You couldnt remove it fully as it the EU mandate equipment.

Similar issue to the ID.3 that replaced my Corolla, I had to switch it off in the settings each time I got in which was irratating so I found someone who could switch it off and it stayed off. Currently the best £30 I've ever spent Easily got 65mpg in mixed driving and when put in sport it went pretty well but its not exciting at all and being a late 2024 model it had the mandatory speed limit recognition system which was both annoying and woefully innaccurate.
