Has my GR Yaris steering rack ‘moved’…?
Discussion
Hey y’all…
My Yaris is a 2023 - December car…
I was out a couple of days ago, braking on a straight & starting to line her up for a tightening corner…
As the brakes loaded up and the nose dug in and the direction change started: ‘Big CREAK / CRACK’ came up through the steering wheel / column… something definitely ‘moved’…
I think - the steering - which was once perfectly balanced and centred - is now slightly steering ‘right’…
I read on a couple of forums that steering racks can ‘move’…?
Idk - anyone got any ideas before I take it back to the main agent…
Thx…!

No - no mods…
Totally standard - 2.5k miles…
I will be main agent bound - booking it in…
Will be an interesting ‘test’ of the dealer response - even if I am ‘imagining’ the steering alignment and balance - the creak & crack was REAL… deffo…
Would like to think there are suspension folk who know about this kind of thing out there :-))

Ok - car is back & is in fine fettle…
A full geometry & laser alignment was carried out, including ride height and camber, toe in - the lot…
Spanners applied to all areas to ensure correct torque - across the rack, arms, shocks, roll bar, springs - all checked for proper seating and top mounts…
Tyre pressures done - and road tested ‘side by side’ with another GRY…
A full clean bill of health - all laser alignment and printouts given back to me…
Car drives - knob on…
If anything was tweaked or aligned - I will never know - but I think the would have told me if they had…
The underside video shows a fab looking set of suspension and brake set ups in all 4 corners - great for a £30K car…
Sooooo - maybe it was just a road ‘hicky’ that caused the shock noise up the column? Or the change of direction loaded and unloaded smthg a bit quickly?
In any case - no faults to report - and no movement found…
:-))
Which I am super glad about - it has restored confidence in the front end…
I asked if they wanted any £££ - they did not, all part of the service sir…
Can’t ask for much more - thank you Listers and Toyota - great service there…!
Even had a little compare with the gen 2 whilst there, if you have a gen 2 on order - all good, but I am very, very happy I bought my gen 1 (Dec 2023) car when I did :-))
Back to enjoying the car now & awaiting its new stablemate later this week…!
