Hi all,

My mum has a 2014 RAV4 D4D, it will be 10 years old in Novemeber.

its been serviced by a local mechanic for a few years now but we have noticed that Toyota offer 1 year warranty on cars that are serviced by them up to the age of 10 years. Toyota UK have confirmed if we had it serviced today, the warranty would only run till its 10th birthday so its not strictly a 1 year warranty.

Mums car is having two issues recently, one of the parking sensors has gone (were planning to replace that as its like £30 for a replacement) and also the power boot works when it feels like it now.

If we sent it in for service and they noticed the power boot wasn't working before they start the service are the dealership likely to say not our issue? or are they likely to ignore it till after service is completed and then replace the power struts under the 1 year warranty?

The car has done low mileage and mum doesn't want to get rid but the boot is driving her mental, I did say just get the service done locally again and buy aftermarket replacement power struts for around £200 as the Toyota ones are about £1000 I've been told.

I think the warranty starts after the vehicle has been serviced and therefore does not include pre-existing faults. I have same kind of warranty through Lexus. I keep getting car serviced and they extend warranty again.

Yeh I mean it does make business sense to do it that way.

You can’t expect pre existing faults to be covered and it wouldn’t surprise me if certain things are excluded as the vehicle gets older..

But, what are the chances of the dealership noticing the parking sensors and power boot during a routine service?

Worth a chance.

The second they try to open the boot and it just bleeps at them will be when they realise , its unfortunately not working more than it works.
