Got up at 06:30, not exactly middle off the night, and pulled back curtains to see two scroats crouching by the RX450h. Shouted out of the window then ran down to the car to see them jump in a black Merc and speed off. I went round to the nearside front wing and they’d un popped the front and side trim and tried to get at the headlamp. Luckily it all popped back again. Older models can be fully accessed by the headlamp wiring with the right equipment! They were unsuccessful with mine! So, it’s now parked on the drive infront of security camera and crook-locked. Don’t you just love moder cars? I’m glad it’s not mine and I can hand it back in a couple of months!
Speak to your dealer - steel plates are available free of charge for the RX450 to prevent access to the canbus plug in the wheelarch. If they try and charge you refer them to Lexus UK.
So far the rest of us get nothing…
And if you get a chance, go into your dealer on a Saturday morning and ask in a loud voice WTF they’re doing about it.

The problem with the protection plates and/or stickers is they’ll still try it. Until every single Lexus with sub standard canbus comms has been recalled and fixed we’re all at risk.

Given that insurance companies are so bad at paying out less than realistic replacement value, I would rather my car was broken into than stolen and lost or stolen recovered. At least bumper can be fixed.
Lost catalyst last year from my old RX. Miffed about that too. Did not replace the cat because it would just get taken again. Did not want the old car writing off as otherwise, its a perfect car in great condition for age.

My view was the vid should stay up. There’s loads like that but I suppose taking down one of the ‘sales’ videos is a logical decision.
The more owners that know about it the better, as Lexus certainly aren’t publicising the risk, or publicising the free RX protection plates - owners are having to ASK to get them fitted.

JLR are now dead in the water despite investing millions in recalls - I even read they were subsiding border container security.
Lexus/Toyota need to find a solution for all cars and issue a recall while their customers can still get insurance.

Having been on the Lexus owners club forum today it appears the RX owners are now being offered upgraded or improved ‘enhanced’ headlight ecu can bus protection plates 
On that basis I’d assume they’re fking useless 
Lexus : issue a recall and either fit canbus comms fit for purpose or get immobilisers rolled out to all cars for less than a couple of hundred quid a car.
If you own a Lexus that’s on the vulnerability list - RX, UX, NX, LC, ES etc - go shout at your dealer, have a go at them on social media and just generally let them know this isn’t good enough. And then fit an immobiliser and stickers to advertise the fact. Quickly.
If you’re thinking of buying a Lexus, get an insurance quote first - it could be as much as a Land Rover. Don’t buy unless the dealer offers to fit an immobiliser free of charge.
