Toyota Caldina GT-Four, what is ownership like?

Hello Toyota owner's,

I'm sure now a few of you have seen I'm asking about a few cars now as I am on the hunt for my next daily. I have been recommended a Toyota Caldina GT-Four, I don't know anything about these cars apart from they are imports only. I am wondering what ownership has been like for those who have owned one, what have they been like, the quirks, the ups and downs and so on. As always I really appreciate any information.

I just bought one. I like it because it is practical, rare and JDM cool. Much better to look at on the driveway than an Astra. But it is not very exciting to drive if I'm brutally honest. The 4 speed auto gearbox is surprisingly smooth but doesn't cut it when shifting in manual. Does hold onto the gears up the rev range though. Guess it could do with an extra gear or overdrive for the motorway but it copes well enough without. Wish it had cruise control. I have a 4th generation 3SGTE in a Mk2 MR2 so that quells the need for speed with a third pedal. I guess I'd recommend thinking twice about it if it's going to be your only car. Does the job I need. Hi Andy, cheers for that very helpful, yeah it would be my only car so I'll keep my eye out on some of the other cars I'm looking at as they may be more suitable.

I used to own a 98 manual converted Caldina gtt for about 6years great cars think the later gt4’s became a little more refined but heavier.. I replaced with an Evo 9 wagon, which is fairly comparable ..
