I never ever considered a Lexus, but i saw one in the flesh a few days ago and after speaking to the owner it perked my interest. The owner had bought the car with a sport pack? Brand new and said given the depreciation hit it made no sense for him to sell. In fact he said it was so good he wanted to keep it for as long as possible...

I have nearly bought one three times, and every time stepped back just before.

They are a grand tourer, nothing more. The gearbox is reasonably recalcitrant and refuses downshifts where a ZF would be more than happy to provide. And the early ones had a relatively poor ride. This was fixed in 2019MY.

Having said that, at c.60k where they are hovering now, I can't see much that competes - the engine sounds lovely, and it does look great. It will be far more special feeling than your M4, but not as capable.

Also the sport pack is the mid range model, there is sport + which comes with a lot of unescessary carbon.

I hope no-one comes out with a killer reason not to buy. I've had a new one on order for a few months and am expecting delivery in June; can't wait.

Nobody in their right mind is going to talk you out of a car that looks like that, with a V8 engine that is built by the finest car builders on the planet.

Question is, why haven't you already got one (my excuse is the dog)?

Being a pauper, I have the Lidl equivalent on my radar, the RC200t, you can now get them for less than 20k and I reckon they are a nice alternative to the other coupe’s around

I looked at one of these a while back too - the only fly in the ointment that I could see was the infotainment system on the earlier ones was apparently terrible to use. I believe that's been remedied in the facelifted version?

I'm hovering at the moment. Had an ISF, and now have an RC300h hybrid.
Have a cash ceiling of £50k and the hybrid versions are appearing under this figure now, so am very tempted.
But if I went for one I know I wish I'd have waited for a V8. So, the wait continues...
And don't forget the 10 year warranty subject to Lexus servicing, which in some cases be extended for another 2 years.
Am tempted by the one in Belfast on Autotrader.

You need to road test the LC, it won't feel as quick/brutal as the M4

But for a GT cruiser that's rare, beautiful, reliable, you can't go far wrong.

I don't think they'll depreciate a whole lot more, in fact one at around 50k might not depreciate at all if the mileage is kept lowish.

Someone said they sound good?

Aren't they quite muted?

I only ask as I had the RCF with same engine and it wasn't loud, or even V8 soundy.

Does the LC have a different exhaust note to the RCF?

I bought one a couple of weeks back, a used 2017 Sport+ V8. I might still be in the honeymoon period...

The gearbox is fine IMO, infinitely better than the ZF on my previous GranTurismo which seemed to be poorly programmed in both its auto modes and was dimwitted and unresponsive in manual. In the LC the shift is very responsive in manual and changes it's character depending on how enthusiastically you're driving. Admittedly I've never driven a DCT so don't expect it to be as responsive as one of those.

I have no issues with the ride either, though I'll caveat that by saying that my other car is a modified GT86! It will also depend whether the LC is on the standard runflats or not; non-runflats apparently help.

The only carbon bits on the Sport+ are the roof and the kick plates on the sills, everything else is common to the other trim levels. I'm no fan of excess carbon fibre but what's on the LC is nicely incorporated (in contrast to how it's often spec'd on GranTurismos). You definitely want the Sport+ pack for the rear wheel steering (exclusive to the Sport+ I believe) and LSD. Sport+ also gets the pop-up spoiler.

I went for a very bright colour and it gets a lot of attention. The interior is superb. It's comfortable and the materials are exceptional. The engine is fantastic.
The infotainment is a bit rubbish for usability but music sounds great through the optional Mark Levinson sound system. I didn't think I needed the only other option, the head-up display, but it's very easy to go quicker than you intended and I'm finding it useful rather than distracting. I'd recommend both HUD and ML, they were both very reasonably priced when new so many LCs were equipped with them.

Dynamically it's obviously heavy, and it's very big - parked next to a new 5 series, the LC looked like the bigger car. The brakes are staggeringly good (17" discs IIRC!) so it stops well. The rear steer makes it enthusiastic into corners; I didn't drive a car without it so have no comparison there. Whilst it goes where you point it, the steering itself doesn't give much feedback IMO.

That and the infotainment are really my only gripes so far and neither of them are enough to change my opinion that the LC is an absolutely superb car that looks and feels very special. I've seen it compared favourably to Aston Martin in several reviews. Evo included it in a group test with a DB11, Roma, and Conti GT and whilst it didn't win, it wasn't last either and simply being included in that test speaks volumes. It looks and feels like a more expensive car.
At used prices, and with a 10 year/100k mile warranty if you service it at Lexus (£60/month for a 2yr service/MOT plan) it's a bargain.

If it's the type of car that appeals then I can definitely recommend it. Sorry OP, probably not what you wanted to hear!

I've got one superb car to look at and to drive, however in the year that I have owned it, I have had to take it back to the dealer 4 times now for warranty work - speaker not working, mirror not folding back, faulty auto dimming headlights - this needs a windscreen recalibration at £180.00 not covered by the warranty, petrol flap not opening.

Last weekend the flap broke on the armrest tray that lifts it up, quick look on the web, can't by the part have to have a new armrest @ £4500 - don't quite believe that, so I decided to repair the flap, took 2hrs on my lathe/mill and cost 10p in parts.

The LC500 is currently my most unreliable car since I had a C200 Mercedes.
