A friend of mine has had his 2009 Lexus RX400h cat stolen in broad daylight and is struggling to find a replacement. All the usual suspects quote "out of stock" and apparently a Lexus dealer is talking a figure which I reckon equates to about 50% of the car's existing secondhand value. I guess this reflects the reason for the theft.

Anyone have any ideas of a reliable independent supplier ?

Happily "Catman" has sorted me out.

When I phoned him and started telling him about the catalyst theft he said, unprompted "don't tell me, an RX Lexus in the London area?"

Seemingly a bit of a Lexus epidemic - he has sent out 4 RX Lexus cats today alone - all to replace stolen units - you have been warned..

Mine was nicked on Saturday, again broad day light when parked up in a School car park. Catman sorted me out as well, I bought a Cat from him a couple of weeks ago on the basis that mine would get nicked at some point in the future. He is selling something in the region of 40 a week now.
I've also just ordered a straight pipe from him, will take the cat off and only put it back if required by the MOT, bit of a debate going on at the moment concerning the legality of straight through pipes on hybrids and the requirement for Cats for an MOT.

Has this affected Insurance premiums at all? I am in the process of buying one but have to admit this has put me off, it happened in bristol a few weeks back , the local news even had CCTV of them doing it on the roadside?!
