Dealers weren't allowed to sell new GRY or GR86 for over list.
To go through the whole dog and pony show of a ballot to then have dealers selling cars for profit, to people who weren't even in the ballot, would be a farce.
Now, don't get me wrong, Toyota UK made an absolute shambles of the GR86 sales process - to the extent that I cancelled mine. Subsequently I was offered brand new 86s at 3k under list, because they hadn't sold them all, despite all the communication about limited numbers and deadlines.
The ballot process for this car is different to what they've done previously. To undermine it so blatantly would cause some significant fallout.
However, there's absolutely nothing to stop people who have an allocation from trying to make a profit on their car. AIUI, they would have to take delivery and be the first registered keeper. Nothing to stop them signing the V5 over and giving someone the keys at point of handover at the dealership though.
FWIW, I don't think there's much scope for a flip on a Yaris at almost £50k. The new car is not £20k better than the original. If anything, the disappointed parties may look to the second hand market and prop those values up a touch.
The limited edition cars have a chance of making a profit IMO.
The answer is to buy it to use it.
T must be concerned to avoid the Honda Civic R situation where the latest (FL-5) cars are now being discounted out of the dealer network, despite being a premium used sale at launch.
Any car over £40k now carries a significant VED penalty and insurance costs have gone through the roof ... and then there is the cost of finance ...
I owned both a GRMN and a GR-Yaris ... I sold the latter because I couldn't get comfortable with the seating position and wish I'd kept the GRMN. As it was I worried about the very high cost of spares on such a limited numbers car ... exhaust £4k etc.

Unconfirmed. Toyota have said that based off their allocation giving to them in January they will decide what to do, one suggestion from them (forget where it was posted now) was that they might continue to use the ballot for current owners and those on the waitlist.If the ballot was for 2024, will there be further allocations in 25 and even 26?
But the answer is no one will know until at least Jan but likely later than that. Theres no confirmation how many are coming in for this year’s allocation but rumours are as low as possibly 200 (across FB, forums think I’ve seen about 15 people say they have a car so reckon 200 sounds right) in the first allocation for 2020 it was around 400. Then they were averaging around 1,300 cars a year to the UK so halving that (the factory is still producing the corolla) 650 cars a year when the waitlist and current owners list is around 10-15,000 so id say ballot is more likely.
Starmergeddon could have a negative impact on sales, no one knows what’s coming and its impact on people’s purchasing power so could be a few cancelled orders and less buyers going forward compared to the mad overs and low interest years of the mk1.
