So much talk on here about money, investment etc etc blah blah blah. Just buy it, drive it keep it or sell it. Who cares if it makes money or not? Performance cars are to be spanked…end of!
Each to their own. I don't think needlessly throwing away money is a good idea personally. Phil. said:
Did anyone like/agree/disagree/comment on Matt’s comparative GR video or do you all want to continue to talk about money?
I just watched it and it really doesn't sound like it's as big a leap as I thought. The differences in 0-60 were very minor, no way I would be able to tell jumping between cars. I also don't think I would like it to be much firmer for road use. I'm sure it's going to be a fantastic car as it marginal improvements on an already fantastic car but it is a hard sell for the big increase in price. Matt also suggests that only a couple of hundred are coming to the UK, even if that's 200 per year due to fleet emissions then they really are going to be rare.
The GRMN did look amazing to drive (not sure about the carbon bonnet) and I would do unspeakable things to get one over here!

The point is that some people don't care about the financial aspects of ownership but others do.
But if you do care about the costs a car sitting doing nothing makes no financial sense in the hope that one day it might make you some money. Using it and maintaining it makes far better financial sense as you also add in the enjoyment factor.

Noone said anything about having a car sat doing nothing.

Nice video from Matt at CarWow comparing all the GR models.
Interesting that he says more Gen 2’s will be made but far less Gen 1 numbers will arrive in the UK. The main reason for developing the Gen 2 seems to be the auto market in Japan.
As for comparing the Gen 1 performance against the Gen 2, it cemented my opinion that the difference isn’t worth the best part of £20k to swap from a used Gen 1.
I’m also unsure if any GR, even the specials, will be a good investment.

It also seems the one you want out of all of them is the GRMN. I saw some Japanese reviews of this when it came out and they were saying how the modifications cut a few seconds a lap which this video seems to confirm. GRMN with a few power upgrades and that would punch well above its weight around a track.

Something for Best MOTORing / Hot Version to pick up?

Interested to see how a Mk1 with a remap and / or Öhlins / Bilstein suspension fares against the the GRMN and Mk2 versions.

I think it would get closer but the chassis stiffening wouldn’t be replicated in the mk1. That channel you mentioned did a review of the GRMN and went into a fair amount of detail on the upgrades. Something for Best MOTORing / Hot Version to pick up?
Have been invited to throw in for the ballot and probably will just to see how it goes but the new front end looks so ugly vs mk1. As much as the mk2 will be faster and more tuneable I can’t see myself getting one.
Someone having fun in their GR at the ring punching against a GT3RS
