As said, the GR Yaris is not a track special. Even so, that test was an outlier, in the Sport Auto test in the dry on Hockenheim GP, the Yaris was 1s behind the Type R on a 2min course only slightly slower than the ring (4,56km). So a sub-8 time is within reach, especially when considering the tyres on the Yaris aren't as good as the Type R ones that set the lap, so if allowed to level the field and put on some track biased rubber (cup 2) it should, relatively, fly...
I also think a sub 8 is within reach, the only thing that might hamper it is the somewhat low top speed, which matters at the Ring.

Ive just listed my car for sale. Hadnt planned to when i got my allocation, but the car is just too capable and for me lacks character. Its only fun when pushing on far too hard for the road, and because of this I find myself driving it far too fast to keep my licence. All this chat about lap times is absolutely irrelevant to how much ‘fun’ the car is to drive. My opinion is that it has too much grip, and lacks the character of an old school rally homolgation like a 90s subaru or evo

Ps. Before any of you get butt hurt about my opinion and decide i dont know what im talking about, feel free to check out my insta page @pissed_on_petrol so you can see that i own and drive many different cars and feel that my opinion is a valid one ??

I had wondered this.

Would more power fix it or is it a wider issue in your view?
More power is not what he needs. I know exactly where he’s coming from but for me it’s also the bit that excites me about the car the fact it’s so capable.
For me, more power wouldnt fix the issues I have with it on the road. The only thing that might work is a geo adjustment, which I am going to try tomorrow before I make the final decision to sell. A friend of mine is a geo wizard and just took delivery of his own GR last week which he has been experimenting with. Im going for a drive in it tomorrow, and he assures me it is much more lively and pointy. Which would make it more fun, for me. I will let you know how it goes 👍

Have you tried turning of all the driver aids in advance mode, I think it’s called?
Read somewhere that turning off the aids helps to give the car more feel to the driving experience.

Colour wise I’ve gone for the Pure White simply because it’s the most honest colour & is more Rally inspired.
The Black does look the best on photos & when u see it from afar in real life but get close & the metallic flake in the paint is horrendous!! Whenever u clean & polish it it will always look like there’s dust on the paint but it’s the flake!!
The pearlescent White’s looks stunning in certain lights but also can look like it’s sat in a room full of smokers!!
The Scarlett Red had potential but an underwhelming colour when seen on other cars in the Toyota range!!

The colour I would of chose in an instant is the RED offered in Japan & Australia etc. Why have we not had this colour as an option!! Anyone else like this RED???

Whilst there is a difference in paint code 3U4 to 3U5 I’m not sure there is much of a difference. That photo is just overly sunny. Here an Australian car not in the sun:

Are they different colours? I think they have different names for the same colour depending on region. This is a UK car. As it’s Pearl paint it changes a lot depending on light, similar to my Quadrifoglio, some times it was radiant and other times a bit flat.

They’re very similar paint codes not sure there’s any real noticeable difference.

Nice lurking.

I went for pure white too, but the pics I saw of the red (any red) really looks good. I stuck with white because, like you, I wanted the proper rally thingy. Red does look though.

The current rally car is red, black and white, I’m assuming that’s why only three colour are available ?

Thats the only way I drive it, sport mode with aids all off. Bit it still feels very ‘safe’

When you say safe, are you referring to the level of traction?

The thing that frustrated me about my 981S Cayman was the fact that the chassis was so competant at sensible speeds that I felt a "passenger". I had a feeling of dejavu when driving the GRY. Impressive - but not (for me) lovable at sane speeds.

Exactly this. The level of grip and the competence of the chassis, and the way the car has been set up geometry wise, means that it kind of flatters you as a driver and thats just not my thing. I like cars that feel edgy and alive, and demand respect and carefully judged inputs to get the most out if them. The GR would flatter even the most ham-fisted of pilots. I am hoping a geo tweak will improve it though, I will let you know how that goes

Are edgy cars produced nowadays?
I thought those cars were produced 20 or more years ago?

Hadn't seen there was a volume 2!!

I see there's an option to "buy this car", and then "pre-order with cash online" option now on Toyota UK, so they've started taking online orders again.

Does anyone know if they then quote you a date? Last I heard it was at least May22, probably further out now I guess, but actually that suits me OK.

Can't argue with facts, you black and white losers. readit
Red equals slow (fact). The brakes are.......red!
Also, you'll find that red cars are actually painted black underneath - that's where their speed comes from. biggrin

That's really interesting, completely agree lap times and comparisons with the Civic are absolutely irrelevant when it comes to why I wanted this car... I came from an Evo 9 and had the exact problem with it that you're describing with the Yaris, it wasn't really fun to drive because you had to be absolutely on it to get it to come alive under you, and by that point on road you're basically a missile.

The Yaris in contrast on OEM suspension dives and rolls around and you can easily get the back end to wiggle into and out of corners at far lower levels of commitment.

I did find on the factory alignment that it was a bit understeer happy on entry, however I gave it the same alignment treatment I gave the Evo and it ended up with zero understeer and retained all the wiggling of the rear that makes you laugh at it.
The changes I made were to dial in maximum camber on the front, take all the toe in off the rear and set it to 0.00 and then dial in a bit of toe out on the front.
On road when having fun I set the drive modes to sport/expert. If getting propperly on it on track I go sport/all off.

I see you have a 106 Rallye, I honestly can't imagine a GR Yaris would top that for fun at normal speeds down a country road.
