In the vague hope that Toyota asking me if I was still interested means that I might be able to get a car at some point (after foolishly cancelling my order the first time around), I'm test driving a car tomorrow.
Let's hope that I hate it and can then feel smug about my decision to cancel.......
I'll be driving there in my modified MX5 NC2 so it should be an interesting comparison.

So, what did you think? Let's hope that I hate it and can then feel smug about my decision to cancel.......

Is what I was hoping would happen, but unfortunately not...
It looks great, although they had the full GR body kit on it which I wasn't keen on - even the duck bill spoiler didn't look as good as I thought it would and light kept reflecting off it when I was driving, which was distracting in the rear view mirror..
I was surprised by how powerful the engine was, massively more so than the NC2 or the GT86, even being very tractable at low revs.
The suspension is very firm around town and poor roads, but is actually very comfortable on dual carriageways while still being excellent on twisty roads.
The steering wasn't quite as good as the hydraulic system in the NC2 but was very good for an electric setup. Gear change was good, probably more positive than the NC2 but less 'snickety' if you know what I mean.
I was quite surprised with the space on offer, the boot is good and great with the seats folded down. I even thought that the rear seats were better than expected, as long as the passenger seat was really far forward. No chance of fitting anyone behind the driver.
There's a very good chance that the car I drove was actually the one I had on order but cancelled last year - same spec, same dealer group, same delivery time. The sales guy even said it was a cancelled order, which just hurts more!
Fingers crossed for more coming from Toyota.

Thanks for that! This is the first car of its type I've had, so with nothing to compare it to it's good to hear what others who might have more experience of these things think.
No problem. I think Evo giving it 2nd place in their car of the year test is a better viewpoint than mine, I ideally needed lots more time with the car (and quieter roads) to get to know it properly, but I can see that it's a car that would reward greater exposure, which is good.callahan said:

How did it compare to your NC? What’s mods are you running? I was considering an 3.75 NC and visiting BBR for power and handling mods.Let's hope that I hate it and can then feel smug about my decision to cancel.......

I could really feel the difference in body rigidity, which isn't surprising, but it was probably the biggest change, although the engine is so much stronger too.The nc2 has better steering and the gear change is close, but I can see the GR86 being a great long term car.
Mine has MeisterR suspension and a couple of other suspension bits, it's very low and handles really well. The engine is standard, just an upgraded filter and back box, so it sounds better than the GR too! I could definitely do with more power.

Hi.
My son told me about this car when he was having his GR Yaris checked.
I phoned them.
It's not for sale.
What's its status then? I admit I didn't speak to a salesman (because I wasn't in the market to buy it) but the car had a price next to it which also itemised the cost of some after-market options if you wanted them (dash cam, mud flaps, etc). Also, if a car's been sold - and is just in the showroom awaiting collection - it's normally locked to stop people getting in and having a poke around but it wasn't. So it certainly appeared up for sale to me!My son told me about this car when he was having his GR Yaris checked.

£49k seems a touch mental to me, or is there method in the madness?

Just had an email from Toyota to say they've limited stock of GR86 and that due to my position on the list I could have one. £32,495 - is that the same price as before (can't remember!). I went manual and white, by the way.
Mine was 30k plus paint. The PCP is up to 8.4% too which is a lot more but expected. David87 said:

Presumably you're one of the lucky ones who has been contacted per the process outlined in the EVO article below?https://www.evo.co.uk/toyota/204406/toyota-gr86-is...

I was lucky enough to get the email today too. Got until 14 June to decide, so need to give it some thought over the weekend.
Heart is a 100% yes, head is 50/50 on the purchase of an unnecessary 3rd car
Even at £32,495 it sounds like you could move it on without taking a loss should you decide it's an unnecessary luxury; however, it's more likely you'd see a profit so it seems like a decision where the head and heart can be aligned! Not sure if it's a very PH question (although some may think it a very PH question), but why are the WBAC quotes for a GR Yaris and GR86 so different? I've runs couple of each and the GR86 is returning 24-25k and the GR Yaris is coming up at 33.5k?
Is it an artificial skew as so few GR86s have been sold through WBAC?
In an ideal world it wouldn't be part of any decision making but I'd have to buy the 86 cash while I still have the 0% locked in for the Yaris and don't fancy taking a 10k loss if I need to sell the GR86.
