Looking to buy an m3 next year so doing some research now. Has anyone experience of buying from auction ex lease and what price difference is there. I'm looking for a 2022 standard.

There's a guy on YT that posts videos from auctions

Have a look and compare against current retails. From what I could see, I wasn't sure how any traders made money. Some of the cars that sold looked to be cheaper to buy on AT....

No specifics but it’s fairly well known that Tesla often strip software options from cars before putting through auction but the car doesn’t update until the new owner registers. So if you are looking and think a car is good value because of say self driving being enabled (and ignoring the fact it doesn’t currently do anything) you may find it hasn’t really got it.

He's comparing to book price most of the time and they're beating book, but who sets the book price?

To see depreciation you need these sorts of charts.

The old shape model M3 LR from 2023 dropped 18k over the first 6 months of this year as a result of general depreciation and the new model. Thats painful whatever the guy in the video says about the, not being as bad as people on the interest are saying.

The Auctioneer is using CAP clean/average as a guide. Appreciate that EVs are tricky to 'book' correctly but CAP is universally used

I didn't say it wasn't, my point was you can't say the market is strong because the cars are going throuigh above book if the book is at rock bottom.

A 100k taycan at a book value of 60k and going through auction at 55k or a book value of 50k going through at 55k.. at the end of the day they've both lost loads. And next month those figures could all have dropped by a further 1k.

I think the only inference is CAP have over shot a little with their view and there's a bit of a correction due, but the cars contunie to slide as the long term data is still showing.

You're right and I'm not suggesting different. I think CAP have hit EVs in the balls recently due to over-inflated residuals and this is now being corrected to an extent.
