Anybody else been bait-and-switched on Tesla Model Y deal?
Discussion
I knew it was a bit too good to be true, but ... ordered a RWD Model Y on Sept 13th when the fantastic tesla deals were in play.
Finance all approved on the day, and car was initially scheduled to be delivered in September (according to app)
Lease deal with £4,299.00 and £315 for 36 months...
Today, I got a notification in the app to say VIN allocated and ready to schedule delivery - whoop!
Click through but app sends me to the online site to manage the order
Receive an updated order via email with a switch to the new LR RWD model (at this point I guessed what might be coming but couldnt see any of the finance docs)
Then, around 5pm app again says ready to schedule delivery
I double-checked the finance details, and the monthly figure has changed to £690 / month! (I'm glad I double-checked).
Interestingly that is a whole lot higher than the current list price on the website (which is still a chunk more than the deal I thought/hoped I had)
Anyone else?

I thought you had to take delivery of the car before the end of September to get the reduced price deal?
My experience was I ordered a MY RWD on the 12th, I ordered it in a showroom, and they said the only way of the getting the deal was to make sure I ordered a car showing as in stock and available before the end of the month. I placed the order and the guy I was dealing with linked it to a car showing as available on the system. I had a VIN straight away and the Reg appeared a day later and I had an agreed collection for the 26th. Over the weekend they brought out a deal for the MY AWD, and I thought that would suit me better, and they had a suitable car showing as available. On the Monday I called Tesla to see if I could switch my order. At this point they cancelled my original order (I didn't ask them to do this, I was only seeing if I switch to a different car) so the VIN and Reg disappeared from my app. It then took me a couple of phone calls/days to get someone who actually knew what they were doing. The chap I finally got through to managed to find a car that was available and linked the VIN to me, while I was on the phone. Again reg appeared a day or so later, and I collected it at the originally agreed date and time.
While it was a good offer, it did seem that Tesla needed to up their game getting cars allocated to customers, and pushing collection dates before the end of September. If I had just ordered online I am not sure I would have had a car by the end of the month. Placing the first order in the showroom was very easy, and the guy in the showroom was great, changing the order was a bit more problematic and if I hadn't chased I think I would have been in the situation you are now.

"I thought you had to take delivery of the car before the end of September to get the reduced price deal?" It seems so, the car was actually scheduled to be delivered in September, so it would have been fine, but Tesla pushed it back - assume they ran out of RWD which pushed me into Oct & LR RWD.
"Also the deal on the website now is for the new LR RWD, so you maybe better to switch to that anyway. Did you use a referral code? That knocks about £10 off the monthly payment." Yes, it is a better car (it definitely helps with range anxiety and a bit more poke is always good). It's just disappointing to see the price jump so much. Yes, I used a referral, so that helps.
I spoke to Tesla today - and they were very polite, but the message was
- we can't honour the previous deal but will give you a £450 / credit (which I assume I could use for premium connectivity, which I was planning to get).
- we have changed lease provider, so need to reset your deal - see the website for new lease pricing
(which is much cheaper than the updated pricing they sent me in the app, but still a chunk more expensive than the deal I thought I had).
Some thinking to do...

Honestly, just walk away. It gets no better once you own the car, custom service melts down if it deviates from a recognised issue, you’ll find it near impossible to discuss any issues other than badly through an app, software in the UK is already behind even Europe (drive your car abroad and it may have more features and that’s just because they’ve not implemented them when driving on the left), and you’ve seen for yourself their attitude when trying to buy is imagine their motivation after they have your money. Musk is creating animosity to the brand with his full on love in with Trump and plenty of false tweeting, and the latest law suit in the US has even claimed no serious investor would believe Musks Tesla claims. How much of your desire to own a Tesla is wrapped up in the hype and circus that Musk has created, how much is linked to the benefits any EV would give you and how much is based on true Tesla USP?Gassing Station | Tesla | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
