Charger for Octopus Intelligent
Discussion
Hello, after much umming and ahhing I've decided to get a new Model 3. I've ordered the 3 pin charging adapter, but I'll need a proper charger installed.
I've read some bad experiences with the Ohme chargers that Octopus offer. First of all the untethered ePod doesn't lock on the charger end which can cause problems if pulled out before stopping the charge.
With the tethered Pro, it seems if you try to schedule with the charger it's not great, but if you schedule with the car it's fine. I don't really want a cable to wind up though, would rather dump it in the boot.
Is the more expensive Zappi any better? I've seen they only recently made it compatible with Octopus. I don't have solar and probably never will so that's not part of the equation.
Is there any best option here? I'd prefer to get the charger and installation from the same supplier instead of faff. I like that the Tesla charger will open the flap for you but otherwise it seems like the extra installation costs rule it out.
Thanks for any advice.

I opted for the Zappi from Octopus and I'm quiet happy with it. I don't have storage batteries or solar but I chose the Zappi as it had a tidier cable storage (I wanted tethered) and connected via Wifi to the network rather than the ohme which used a cellular network. I anticipated that Home may charge in the future for continued cellular access.
If you choose to order the Zappi, make sure you point out the colour and tethered / untethered option that you want.

I have no direct experience of them, but quite fancy the S&P EVSE when my Hypervolt needs replacing.

Wifi is good to know, mobile data is good at the back of my house but poor at the front where the charger will be going. If you choose to order the Zappi, make sure you point out the colour and tethered / untethered option that you want.
We have an Ohme Home Pro tethered, and we linked IOG to the charger (rather than our model Y) and zero failed charges since Dec 23.
Any failed charges are usually the result of an issue with a cars API which had nothing to do with the charger - VW/Audi/Kia seems to be the most affected, but Teslas do have issues. Therefore I just add the percentage charge I want to get to the desired level, rather than relying on Tesla's API to communicate effectively every time. There was an issue earlier this year when Tesla changed something and it resulted in a lot of failed charges, but not just with Ohme.

We went with the Tesla wall conecter as recommended by a local installer, so there's one less app needed. Just swipe between products. Marginal convienence gains, but the button on the Tesla cable also opens the charging port removing the need to interact with the car or an app. Haven't switched to the EV tariff yet though, so can't comment on the Octopus integration.
Caution on purchasing the 3 pin adapter, I could see it as an option in the app during purchase, didn't need one, but it turned out it shipped with one anyway. I'd wait to see if that's the case and then pull the trigger later if needed.
