We are adding a Tesla charger during an extension
I asked if it would be connected with a 2 or 3 phase supply
Builder said it will be a single phase 32 amp
Seems low to me what have people who have installed these here had spec’d ?
Thank you
I have a Tesla and had a 32amp Commando socket installed (single phase)... I changed the 'tail' of the Tesla mobile connector that came with the car (the UMC) from the 13amp plug to the 32amp one.I asked if it would be connected with a 2 or 3 phase supply

I've run that for 35,000 miles (3 years) without any problems. It adds 31/32 miles per hour of charge.
U.K. maximums for AC charging are 32amp on either single or three phase supplied (7.4 or 22kw), and then the car may limit it more (Model 3 and Model Y limits are 32a/7.4kw single phase, 16a/11kw on 3 phase).
The mobile charger Tesla currently supply allows 10a on a 3 pin plug, or you can buy 16 or 32a adapters for commando sockets and essentially charge at the same rate as a wall charger of the same current, ie a 32a commando socket and lead on the mobile charger is the same as a 32a wall charger. Thats said, a lot of thr cost of a commando installation is the provision of a new circuit and is the same as for a wall charger. The installation cost differences is pretty much down to whether you wire a commando socket (which costs about £25) or a proper wall charger (the Tesla one is really available brand new on eBay for under £400), and other cheaper options exist.
As a guide, at 7.4kw, you’ll add about 30 miles range to a M3 or MY every hour it’s charging.

Personally wouldn't recommend fitting the Tesla charger unless you specifically want the Tesla badge on the charger.
Would look at other options.
Why? The original one wasn’t great but the V3 is absolutely fine. Some bang on about PEN protection not built in, but I actually think that’s a good thing because if that fails it’s a standalone component and many will remember the old podpoint chargers burning out due to the breaker failing You can also solve the PEN protection with an earth rod but many forget about that.Would look at other options.
