I am looking for a new car and have been considering a Tesla Ludicrous BUT..., every time i see a Tesla, it is dawdling along in the slow lanes, presumably because the owner is scared of running out of power.
I drive fast, everywhere, every day. So my question..., if I drive the tesla with fast acceleration and at high speed, how many miles do I truly get in the real world, from a full charge?
And please, can the answers stick to the question rather than plonkers going on about speed limits.

I know mine isn't a fast Tesla, but when it's safe to do so I drive mine like I stole it. Whenever possible. Everytime.

Theoretically I should get 260miles out of a charge, but realistically I am getting 220 miles at the moment. I don't do anywhere near that though, most of my bigger journeys are about 100 miles, so it literally doesn't matter what efficiency I get, as it goes back on charge when I get home

I'm basically the same, went from some 700+ bhp V8/V10's to the Tesla. Mine is a P90D ludicrous. It's always in Ludicrous mode, not Ludicrous plus which had been pointed out takes time to warm the battery and the couple of times I've tried it I noticed no difference.

The answer is complex but in reality even if you're pressing on as much as possible you'll still have to slow down and run with traffic a fair bit. For example on my 150 mile round trip commute there are bits when I can do significant speed but then a lot of it you're running with traffic and in traffic jams and I do 333wh/M so a range of around 200miles given useable battery and degradation.

Worst case I'll get the range down to about 140/150miles but generally even if you're on a 200 mile journey going fast I'd stop for a bathroom break at a services, have a quick charge and be on my way in 10-15 minutes.

I've done 30,000 miles in mine in under 3 years and I'm converted. I've done Le Mans 3 times in it and Southern Germany with bikes on the back and a car full.

If it's a newer one than mine, as in a Raven Performance it might well do that. Mine is a 2016 and there's a bigger difference in reality between the 90 and the 100 battery than just 10%. In reality more like 20-25% depending on degradation between the 2 packs.

I still think you'd probably be looking at a 95 erh, shall we say KPH cruise over 200 miles than a 110KPH cruise to achieve that range.

My folks are exactly 200miles from me and I used to do the journey in a similar time but I have to say as I've got a little older and I don't want to lose my licence I generally on a long run keep it under 96 so I'm on the safer side of points not court territory. Plus, and annoyingly the Tesla autopilot/radar cruise only works up to 90mph.

When on your 200mile run you also obviously have to think how you'll charge at the other end, in my case I just use a 3 pin plug which is more than enough but it depends on your drive how quickly you need to come back again as you'll only get about 20% over one night.

It's a compromise thing, blisteringly fast low down acceleration and instant pickup coupled with very low fuel costs vs lower range than ICE.

You get used to it and I'm not going back but I very much get that the current tech isn't for everyone yet.

Not as a rule in my experience but I've never encountered one that cruises as quickly as I do. I'm amazed how many Model 3's like to have a pop at me though and have got into it quite a few times with them, and the performance is pretty damn quick.

I’ve got a M3P with the 0-60 of 3.2 - no need to turn on modes etc just instant full torque. It’s like being launched on a roller coaster.

I just have the range set on percentage just like my phone. It also goes on charge each night, so any time I drive it’s at fully charged in the morning.

I drive it just like any of my previous cars, making progress.

It’s like starting each day with a full tank of fuel.

I have a M3P I drive it harshly almost all the time. Advertised as 315 miles. I’ve took it a run from 95% to 5% 168 miles so I’d say you’re aiming around 180ish comfortably I’ve had it now 6 months. Always been a petrol head bought it for commuting reasons (and a free charger at work) it drives beautifully.

Wow. Been a while since I lasted posted on here. apologies.

But yeh, I consider myself a fast and safe driver (previously owned TVR Tuscan, Jaguar F-type and now a BMW i8).

I'm currently buying a 2017 P100D to add to the fold. I've never liked the styling of teslas inside or out, but I cannot argue that all those gadgets and gizmos don't appeal to me :-) So there's that. But mostly it's the prospect of 800hp, 1100ft/lbs of torque and a 0-60 around the 2.25 seconds mark on a good day that appeals to me.

It's not a sportscar by any means, but it can hussle with the active air suspension, and I think it's going to be a hell of a lot of fun to own and drive. And for the cash - around 40-45k will get you a P100D now - 150K new with options. Thats amazing value for about the fastest accelerating production car in the world. Sure the plaid now beats it if you have the money, and want to be the emperor with no clothes (aka driving a feching 2.5 turn to turn car with a yoke steering wheel).. Have a look online for videos of a P100D out accelerating an F1 car, mcClarens, you name it. It really is mind blowing.

It is a pity they look like the most boring executive saloons in the world. I'd have loved the top model to have more road presence - like the M5 vs a bottom of the range 5 series.

Do remember that the Model S range is mentally large.. the difference in price in 2017 between the cheapest ones around 50k, the the P100D at 150K is massive. And the performance difference between a P90D and a P100D is also massive (different motors, controllers, etc make the P90D 4 sec to 60 or so).

His M.O. here is to constantly tear down Tesla, and to try to remove the positivity from any Tesla-related post.

Says much more about him than it does Tesla.
