Hello all.

‘22 model y.
I already have a Thule bike carrier (x3) but the previous family bus had roof rails.

The tesla does not.

Anyone using a set of fixed mount roof bars they’d care to recommend?

Yakima are making some but they aren't available until mid-June. Some stories of broken glass roofs so I went for the Tesla option and got them to fit it as an insurance policy (£70). It's expensive, but I wanted the fallback should the worst happen.

Lease car. I have spoken to the lease company and have it in writing that they “don’t care” what I put on.

But yes, noted.

Any update on this?
The only roof bars I can find for a Y are the Tesla ones which seem very expensive.
Roofbox, Halfords, etc don’t see to have any.
I tried Yakima and they only have the S and 3 listed (I can see why roof bars wouldn’t work on an X!).

They 'don't care' because you'll be paying to fix it.

I bought some. Looked ok.
Before I fitted them I had a call to send them back. Too easy to fit wrong and break the roof. The conversation had was that I would not have been liable if that had happened.

So, still no bars.
Might buy another estate car.

I'm usually fairly competent at DIY type jobs but there's no way I'd do them myself just because the consequences of getting it wrong are so big. I've just left mine on there now and will only remove them when I get rid of the car. Odd that Tesla told you not to fit them though - what else are you supposed to do? Presumably you're looking because you need them, not because you want to have roof bars for the look...

You only risk breaking the glass roof if you are completely cack handed.
There are reinforced areas that are not glass where the roof bars sit.
Use a torque wrench as the torque is quite low and you’ll be ok.
There are plenty of videos on youtube in how to install them correctly.

Sorry. I was unclear.
The supplier of the 3rd party roof bars called me and told me not to use them.

I struck gold and someone local to me who was using a Y as a minicab had a set, aparantly you’re not allowed to run them for a cab so was selling cheap. I paid £290.

i looked at all the aftermarket ones and thought when my lease is up i’ll get my money back if i buy the oem ones
