So I had a reservation down for a new Model S placed a while ago. More with the intent to at least get to test drive one prior to committing - am driving a 3LR at the moment.

Today I get an email through… :

Right-hand drive Model S will not be available in the U.K. for the forseeable future. You can choose to receive credit for Model 3 or Model Y, purchase Model S as a left-hand drive vehicle or just cancel your reservation.

Credit for Model 3 or Model Y
If you convert your reservation to a Model 3 or Model Y, you can receive £2,000 credit* as a thank you for your support.

Left-Hand Drive Model S
If you want to take delivery of a left-hand drive Model S and benefit from 3 years of free, unlimited Supercharging**, explore our inventory of immediately available vehicles.

Full Refund
If you prefer to cancel your reservation, you do not need to take any action. We will automatically cancel your current reservation on June 5th and refund your reservation fee in full.

Went to chuckle at the inventory available. There is of course absolutely none.

May pop into the local Tesla dealership and ask them wtf.

Looks like loads of LHD inventory available now.

Does this mean no RHD vehicles from Tesla other than 3 / Y?

Yeah I got it too. Sitting at the yoke of my new Tesla Plaid dreams dashed.

fking s. You'd have to be mental to take a LHD one. Residuals will be a bloodbath.

I had orders for S Plaid and regular X - don't know what I'll get now. X is the family car for my wife so probably Kia EV9 or Volvo EX90, but will miss the Supercharger network bigtime. As for my S, probably a Highland Model 3 Performance whenever they're available.

Yup, no S or X for any RHD markets now. You can buy inventory S and X in LHD drive if you're really desperate but the residuals on UK LHD cars will be appalling as usual with LHD.

Why have they done this? Because Tesla?

Ahh stock this morning when I got the email showed zero.

Ooh only £115k for a LHD Plaid in Grey.

Wonder if they’re even thinking they’ll sell without a test drive.

It's a bit odd they shipped a load of LHD to Southampton and then went and cancelled all the RHD orders.

Do they think it's just a minor inconvenience and buyers will just say ok, I'll have the LHD?

Most probably the "Mighty Musk" thinks the UK will convert to LHD to please him

Takes the piss - I hope they have to ship them over to Europe because no-one here wants them. biggrin

I'm as big a Tesla fan as any, but ain't no way I'm taking a LHD one... for numerous reasons. I'm sure there will be a handful of nutters who will take some Plaids, but I think the regular ones will be an even tougher sell over here - who wants LHD everyday family wheels? rofl

I wonder if they've discovered there's no way to do RHD without some bonkers reengineering (or at least the ROI on it isn't good enough).

Perhaps the shipping of some LHD over to the UK is to try and mop up anyone who's daft enough to buy one.

right royally odd though, firstly to not to RHD, but then to so openly try and flog LHD here instead. Bizarre.

Roadster 2 is almost certainly dead too, if it wasn’t already. It was only ever going to be a MS plaid+ in a coupe body, they killed the plaid+ a while ago, now they’ve killed RHD

There are still some who swear Musk has never failed to deliver

I'm thinking this may help the residuals on my MX. Though when my wife wants to change, not sure what she will accept - she loooooves the Tesla.

Lol. There’s not a single car that can match the appeal of a Model S Plaid for me. I appreciate I’m a sample size of one but I’m just not interested in anything else.

it's a relatively decent quality car, super quick, with access to the supercharger network and they can be had for under 120k. Seems a absolute bargain, well apart from the lhd.

Fair enough, each to their own.

Hopefully at some point you’ll be able to get a RHD one but I’d be surprised if it’s reinstated anytime soon.

Are you going LHR for now?
