I had an MX for 5 1/2 years and have recently swapped to a MY LR. It’s a great car and the newer tech is an improvement over the X. Apart from the Autopilot that is. In the X I could do a long trip on a motorway and only need to disengage autopilot a couple of times. It would suggest lane changes well, both overtaking and returning to original lane.

However on the Y Autopilot is useless. It rarely suggests Lane changes and you end up stuck behind a slow moving vehicle. Often it will flash up a lane change only for it to quickly disappear after a second. If it did suggest a lane change to overtake it inevitably didn’t suggest a return to the original lane leaving me hogging the Center lane until I overrode it. Changing Lane manually switches off autopilot with that annoying ‘bong’.

I did a trip along the M11/M25/M4 and back today and ended up not bothering with it in the end. I tried all of the Autopilot modes including ‘Mad Max’ and there was no improvement.

Even cruise control seems less responsive. Sometimes hanging back 100m and other times rushing up behind the car in front.

Autopilot is still not very good in general and overhyped unfortunately. It’s better than most Acc systems but really not as good as everyone says it is.

Yeah waste of £3500, trouble is it's constantly asking for me to apply a slight turning force as it can't sense a hand on the wheel, but when you do it reads that as an override and that you want to take control and deactivates autosteer.

Pro tip: You can simply activate either scroll wheel, in any direction, and that re-sets the auto-steer nanny...

I love the "£3500 waste of money" as it's totally incorrect. Autopilot is included as standard and has been for a number of years, it's only when you look at EAP and above do you pay, and that is rubbish, especially if you're buying new in the UK as the extra features don't currently work because of the parking sensor issue #comingsoon...

If you want to see what the basic Autopilot does in the UK on a wide variety of roads... have a watch

I have the standard autopilot, I use it a lot and it works well most of the time.
