I recently sold my Range Rover as I hardly used it - I am now relying on a Model 3LR for most driving.

I am not sure I've ever driven it in snow and it's quite possible this winter that I might need to.

All wheel drive, heavy... torque vectoring... should be fine. I wonder if any on here have thoughts to share on slippy conditions in a Tesla?

I think my Tesla Model X is better in snow than the L405 Range Rover. You should be fine.

Why is it owners of electric cars talk such rubbish, is it to justify their poor choices? The best 4x4 in the world vs a milk float

At least in those temperatures the battery will go flat before you get too far from home.

Do Range Rovers never get stuck in snow?

I am pretty sure AZ has owned multiple Range Rovers, so may have clue what he's talking about - particularly Vs someone who says 'milk float'. Stupid comment.

I’ve owned loads of JLR products, mostly Discoveries and they are brilliant in snow with the right tyres. They also have the terrain response system which has been developed since the D2, unlike the Tesla which is just rubbish.

Why come on to a Tesla thread to say they're 'rubbish'.

I've had multiple JLR products too - so what?!

Pathetic.

Why do people who don't own Teslas talk so much rubbish? tongue out

I own both a Tesla and an L405. I have driven both in the snow. I have had Range Rovers for 25 years and I love them for their off road capabilities. I'll probably always have one.

In the sort of snow we get in the south of the UK (rather than the video you have posted), I felt more secure in my Tesla than my Range Rover. Admittedly, over the last 5 years or so, there hasn't been much snow but I had just bought the Tesla when the "Beast from the East" hit. It's snow performance was one of the most surprising things for me, especially relative to the 2014 SDV8 L405 I had at the time (I now have a p400e PHEV - which I'm sure will enrage you for some reason). Traction, stability control and braking of the Tesla all felt either on a par or better than the Rangie (using the snow setting on Terrain Response).

It could have been better (newer) tyres though.

To be honest, the biggest factor is not the car but the tyres. Winter tyres are transformational (both cars were on all weathers, IIRC). I used to live in Germany (where not only did one get proper snow but one also had to switch to winters) and the difference between my A8 quattro on winter tyres versus summers on snow was mind-boggling - winters almost felt like driving on wet tarmac and summers were an accident waiting to happen.

Because of stupid claims which are clearly untrue.

Didn’t realise Tesla threads were for private members. Perhaps you should put a sign on the door?

Pathetic! wink

Have you driven both back-to-back in snowy conditions then?

I agree with you, but to say a Tesla has more capability in such conditions than a proper 4x4 is absurd. The irony is a Panda 4x4 with off road/snow tyres would be better than both of them.

It’s a bit weird, isn’t it.

Range will be even more pathetic than usual with a bit of cold weather. But of course none of them will ever admit to range anxiety biglaugh

Why is it absurd? The Model X is a 4x4 with highly sophisticated traction control and finer control over torque allocation. Sorry to burst your bubble but driving them back-to-back left me surprised that the Rangie wasn't as good. I had no axe to grind either way and was expecting the opposite outcome.

I would agree that a Panda would be better - in snow, momentum is your enemy and big heavy cars have a lot of that. Getting going isn't the important bit - it is stopping and steering that one cares about (beyond being stuck).

Not as weird as arguing with someone who owns both and has driven them back-to-back in exactly the conditions being asked about.

I agree, I've done 70k miles in a Defender, had 2 Range Rovers, 1 Disco, multiple S/RS Audi's. The Tesla performs really well in the ice and snow, granted it's on winters but so were most of my other cars. Strangely though my wife's Touareg on winters is better than all of them in the snow IMHO, it certainly shouldn't be on paper but it's almost unstoppable.

I suspect 'No Knobs' would have sufficed in this instance.

So you agree that posting one example and ignoring lots of experience makes you look moronic?

Re the Touareg exceeding expectations, one of the odd things I’ve seen was someone bringing a Bentley Bentayga on a muddy shoot. The thing was on 22” diamond cut wheels with low profile road tyres. I was expecting it to get stuck in the first puddle but it went everywhere my Rangie went (on off-road tyres) without seemingly breaking sweat. That included some 6” deep mud. A very impressive performance.
