So with the increasing price of petrol I have started to think that owning two 4 litre V8 twin-turbo cars is probably not the greatest idea. It's time to say goodbye to the daily driver F90 M5 and swap it for something electric. I have put a £100 deposit down on a Model S, black with a white interior, full self driving and the Tempest wheels. Unfortunately there is no mention of price, I will be doing it on a PCP or lease deal through the business as it makes more sense then buying it outright.

So a couple of questions:

Does anyone know when they will be for sale again?
Any ideas on the price?
Any ideas on how much the PCP or lease deals will be?
And finally, what would be a realistic expected miles on a full charge?

Thanks!

Im in the same boat, I had a Model S 2016-2019 and would love to get back in the new one.

I paid my £100 ages ago but I think its about when its cost effective to start knocking out RHD ones over Model Y and 3 by the truckload... so no time soon.

Tempted to order a Taycan GTS but i think the wait would be even longer!

The only bit I can help with is the range, the previous long range version could do over 400 miles and I don't see any reason to believe that the now one will be worse.

The new one has a smaller battery than the old one, the motors are likely to be more efficient to counter, owners in the US are reporting around 270 miles range from a full charge if you're driving above 70 mph. As a M5 owner I imagine you're not the type to sit at 65 in the slow lane. Range does go down quickly as speed increases, especially over 65mph. You also never driver 100% to 0%, or you're a very brave man if you do, so working range is around 240 miles max on a motorway trip. That said, someone will pop up and say they drive really sedately and got over 300 miles from one. They might, drive anything im an optimal way and you'll get much better economy, the question is do you want 1000bhp and then drive it like you've a basket of eggs on the back seat?

Price - they did list it for a while, it was circa 125k from memory. Forget FSD in the UK, you're paying £3,400 for traffic light recognition over the price of EAP. And forget EAP if you can park yourself and save yourself another £3,400. It may be better by the time you take delivery, see the next point:

When? is the bigger question. Nobody is sure what Tesla is playing at. In the US there is always new inventory available, not many, but there is always stock ready to buy with short delivery dates, so they have stock. They have now changed the rear to accomodate the CCS charge flap we need in Europe so thats a step forward. But the talk is not this year, and with a fair few orders on the books already and a fairly slow delivery rate when they do start, it could easily be the second half of 2023 or early 2024 for recent orders if they start deliveries at the start of 2023, but the noise is they'll not even start then. I would set your expectations to mid/late 2024 and be please if it was earlier. I have a hunch they'll just pull the car and never deliver it Europe and focus on volume models like they hope for the cybertruck.

I ordered the Plaid the day it was announced. Was so long ago I can't even remember how much the deposit was... I think it might have been £1,000 back then. Just checked my account and the invoice price is £119,880. That's for a Plaid in red with white interior and 21" wheels. The price went up by £10k after a little while and then orders stopped completely (moving to the reservation thing they have at the moment). I can imagine the price will further increase once proper orders are back open - really hoping they honour mine as, whilst I would struggle to describe any £120k car as good value, it doesn't seem bad for what's on offer.

I'm super excited about it - I think when I ordered it said late 2022, but I'm reckoning Q1 2023 is more likely. Good job as it gives me longer to save up to pay for the bloody thing. hehe Christ knows how long the Model X will be; perhaps another six months behind?!

Had a quick comparison of a friends Y with our X, interms of utility the Y pretty much does what the X can do, but interms of manufacturing complexity its like comparing a Duplo set to 18+ Technic set. Even the raised seating position of the Y over the 3 appears to be just the 3 seats on some stilts.

Consider Tesla has no issues selling the 3/Y at prices that are now very close to what the S/X were back in 2016 (Model Y P with FSD is actually more expensive already than our X!), factor in reduced battery costs the profit margins on the 3/Y must literally be ludicrous.

It really wouldn't surprise me if the X gets 'cancelled' pretty soon, there is simply no way Tesla can scale up the complexity of FWD, all round power doors etc production the way they have the 3/Y.

The S though should survive any Elon mood swing, but again Tesla has never been predictable.
