Just had my m3 delivered and all very lovely.

Only issue is that it says 'Factory Network' across the screen and i don't know how to get rid of it. I've got it on lease so I'm waiting for the finance company to assign me ownership which might solve it but no one seems to be able to give me a straight answer.

Anybody had this and know the solution? I live a bit of a drive from a dealer so would like to avoid that if I can.

Thanks guys - tried turning it on and off but no success. Can't do a factory reset as i don't have the right account/password for factory mode.

Annoyingly the 'Service mode' trick in the youtube video didn't work either - but on the upside it drives as normal so no immediate issue in that sense,

Looks like i will be turning up at the Tesla dealership this weekend to see if they can fix.

So you can (just about) see the text in the teeny tiny font Tesla use.

Because it’s the only instrument in the car.
Because it costs pretty much the same to install a big one as a little one.
Because it’s what the market wants?
Other?

Because incorporating all the controls and functions of the car into the screen it saves them the cost of providing physical controls.

I was thinking that when the OP said it's a bit of a drive to the dealer. Of all cars, he shouldn't need to do that with a Tesla.

I think it just looks big from that camera angle.

And for Tesla, the screens are a money maker.

Soooooo....... Update time, bit of a long one but worth covering for entertainment value if nothing else.

Having tired resets and various YouTube suggestions with no success, I rang Tesla on Wednesday who were very nice and booked me in to go to the dealer to have it looked at. They gave me the usual platitudes that they are sorry for the inconvenience and would get it fixed etc etc. No problem as i happen to be going that way anyway next Tuesday so got it all booked in.

Then got a call back saying that actually they would send out a mobile technician. Great! so all booked in for Friday afternoon.

Techie arrives and says he will sort and should be done in half an hour so I hand him the key card (because my app isn't working as the car is stuck on 'Factory Network') and he merrily plonks himself in the seat and starts fiddling.

After about an hour I get a rather meek tap on the door. Techie admits he cant fix it after all and that "a data packet has been left on the car that means it thinks its at the factory. Unfortunately its not something they can remove remotely so it will have to go to the dealer after all".

I'd been expecting to go on Tuesday anyway so whilst slightly annoying I'm still pretty relaxed at this point and drive home. on arriving home to my adoring family, i find that the USB-C cables I ordered had been delivered so I unwrapped them and went to put them in the car.

Important background - I have an iPhone that's a few years old and whilst i thought it had wireless charge capability I hadn't ever tried it, so when it didn't charge I had naively assumed it just didn't have the capability and ordered a cable instead.

I go to connect the cable in the front USB port and when I push it in there's no resistance and a solid 15cm of the cable can be pushed in - the car has been delivered without the blooming USB ports installed!!!!

Unsurprisingly I then googled the specs of my iPhone and surprise, surprise it does have wireless charge capability! I also found multiple articles complaining that Tesla had shipped cars to customers without USB and wireless charging hardware due to 'the global chip shortage'.

In summary Tesla are living up to their reputation of being a s**t-show in terms of quality control and have delivered a car that:
1. Is stuck in a factory test mode;
2. Doesn't have USB ports installed; and
3. Doesn't have the wireless phone charging hardware.

Tomorrow I will be going through the handbook and checking that all the other kit it should come with is actually there. More updates on my new life as a QC/Beta tester in due course.......

That’s pretty spectacular.
Not being able to fit something due to shortage; a pain in the arse but understandable given the global situation.
Not telling the customer is pretty unforgivable.

Wow, not a good advert for them. Have they said how they will resolve the lack of USB and lack of charging hardware?

FB group blaming you, of course. Great cars, some toxic owners.

Yeah, I particularly liked the comment saying i shouldn't be posting about this on PH as it will put others off transitioning to EVs.... 🤯

So, update of this mornings Facebook query is that Tesla did publicize the fact some cars are getting shipped without USB/wireless charge hardware due to global supply chain issues and are sending mobile mechanics out to retrofit as parts become available. It seems likely that my lease company didn't bother forwarding me the message which is annoying but not Tesla's fault.

'Factory Network' issue remains but should be sorted next week. More to come I'm sure!

They will have told the customer, it’s just that in this case the customer is the lease company who own the car.

Still not great though. People have been receiving a text telling them about this the day before collection.
