Having 'free for life' Spotify access on the car for the last few years has been great, even though the sound quality is 'thin' at times, Babyshark sounds like C**P what ever platform you play it on. I'm also far too lazy for downloading MP3 files on to hard drive, or bother with phone based streaming when the built in player works so well.

Never heard of Tidal till this week when it appeared on the latest software update (Napster was still a thing last time I looked into music apps), thought I give it a go....Holly cow, I've forgotten when higher quality source music sounds like!! Pre-downloaded stuff in 'HiFi' quality sounds like a different audio system all together, and even the streamed stuff has much more dynamic range (top end especially) than the Spotify stream.

But as ever, action is louder than words. So for the first time in about 7 years I'm going to 'pay' for music - £4.99/month student rate, and I've even deleted the Spotify app from the phone. Am actually going to take the car to work tomorrow rather than cycle, as sitting in a traffic jam listening to tunes is just nicer than freezing bits off on a pedal bike whilst dodging inattentive drivers smile.

Unless it has changed, Tidal offers no explicit lyric filtering, making it unacceptable in our household and many others. Surprising how many times Tidal's algorithm followed a childrens track with something with obscene/age-inappropriate lyrics.

Flac files streamed from Plex with PlexAmp sound excellent and the UI is equally superb.

^Thanks for that, I have noticed the more 'mature' interface Tidal seems to portary. BabyShark and co playlist will stay on Spotify.

Actually the Disney Karaoke stuff gets played pretty much all the time when my daughter is in car.

I signed up for tidal now its in the car.

Sounds better than spotify (30 day trial vs free acct).

From what I understand even a spotify paid acct has low bitrate in the car and tidal it seems doesnt.

Much prefer the UI and the algorithms of tidal so far. Finding me good music and the built playlists work, and if it find an artist or song I dont like its easy to kill it forever.

Sadly my 30- day trial lasted 7 days, need to put in payment details, and they have an offer of 3 months for $1a month so I'm likely to sign up for that but have to use a new email :/
