Right, about to take the plunge into Tesla Model 3 ownership - but should I budget for a Tesla branded wallbox too? or are 3rd party wallbox's just as good?

Anyone with the benefit of experience able to advise what I should be looking at? + likely cost to install?

Many thanks all!

Only got our Model 3LR on Friday so only charged it once.

We chose the Tesla V3 Wall Charger, simply for the fact it looks better than most others (personal opinion), but also is proprietory & works in the Tesla App so no need for a 2nd third party app.

No idea if it's better or worse than others, but was roughly the same price as others we briefly looked at & was advised by the installer as the better charger for Tesla's (no idea if this is true or not).

You can use any charger. You don't need a Tesla one specifically as all chargers have the same connections these days. Older chargers tend to be larger, newer ones smaller, for example SyncEV which is the smallest smart charger.

Drop me a PM if you want a more detailed overview.

Also, not sure if you can get the OZEV grant with the Tesla charger (check the OZEV website).

I like our PodPoint. Does the job just fine.

Thanks all. Had a quote for a MyEnergi Zappi 2 at £1225 + VAT! seems pricey - I was expecting between £500-700.....

Is this typical of installation costs?

Depends on what needs done, £500-700 would be a very easy install, mains feed right next to where the charger would be fitted etc.

Indeed. That was around mine (~£585?), with small contribution from government grant. PodPoint took care of that during the registration process.

We were originally quoted close to £1000 for the Tesla home charger as the Grant was not available for the Tesla model, however by the time the install was done i think this has now changed as the bill was only around £650 in the end.

That's on the high side but again, it depends what it includes. Zappi chargers aren't cheap and for most people the extra tech they have is pointless. It's also a big charger. I'd stick with something smaller and more modern tbh.

That night also be without the OZEV grant.

I fitted a commando socket as I didn't want a 'smart' charger - the car is smart enough.

But by the time I had all the right breakers and what-not (I'm not an electrician) it was more expensive than having a tethered Tesla point.

Tesla chargers are cheap and have nice thin cable.

Don't bother with the rip off scheme. Should be about 1/2 a day to fit and prob £200 in bits. So £900?

Maybe he doesn't need to come back and explain himself.

Especially as one single click of his profile will explain.

It doesn't explain, I'm not into 'profile hunting'.

Tesla wall charger cost, plus cable and install...... that's why I quoted.

Hypervolt has been flawless for me, best customer service I have ever had with anything techy. UK run company.

I don't. I've explained it before. It's pointless to explain things to some people on forums.

In terms of what they deliver, they're all pretty similar. I have two Tesla V3 charge points at home and I went for these as I like the aesthetic of them and the button to open the charge port is handy. Does the same job as any of the others, although it's worth noting they are compatible with a three-phase supply if you're lucky enough to have one.
