It’s got a range that’s up there with the best Ev’s currently on the market
Performance is up there or better than most (none sportscar) ev’s on the market
You can fit the whole family and a dog in there
It’s got a reliable supercharger network
It’s just over 50 grand so a similar price to the id4, Enyaq, Korean stuff, Audi q4
Got some quite cool tech in the dashboard iPad thingy
Only thing Tesla haven’t revealed yet is how much they’ll charge on a pcp per month. If that’s 500 or 600 quid a month then expect these to be flying out of the door.

Firstly, forget about the 7 seats bit - unless your rear-most passengers are 5 years old. There's really not enough room for it to work for most owners.
Secondly, love it or hate it, Tesla will easily sell all the RHD Model Ys coming to the UK and Ireland in the first few years. Why is thus the case? The 3 is far less practical and equally bland. But they can't make enough to satisfy the RHD market. Wait a year or do and we'll see who's right.

Contrary to ClaphamGT3s views..... I've taken the plunge and opted for a Model Y. Expected delivery March/ April 2022.
My current car is a Q5 so I was waiting for something a little larger than the Model 3 before taking the Tesla plunge. Ultimately my choice is driven by the fact I don't do a huge amount of miles and the MY on lease through my company works out so much cheaper than I currently pay for the Q5 (personal). Ultimately it'll save me about £200 a month exc. fuel savings. Slightly reluctant as there aren't any in the country to test drive but I'm test driving at M3 on Friday as not even been in a Tesla! (Might seem the odd way round but there is a 14 day cooling off period with the lease and in the week I've been discussing with the lease company estimate delivery date has already moved from Feb).

I'm in a similar position to you. Had a lovely XC60 T5 Inscription Pro. Been waiting for the Model Y for a while. Recently test driven all the latest EV's and thought the Model 3 LR was by far better than the Ionic 5, Kia EV6, Skoda Enyaq and the Polestar 2 with/without performance pack. I thought the Model 3 was well balanced and drove very well. I got used to no speedo in front and for s the infotainment system to be excellent.
Just need the hatchback style and bigger height in rear.
I'm waiting for the 7 sear option though. I've seen reviews in the states and can easily fit a 6ft person in the 7 seats for 30 min journeys.

Your definition of bland must be different to mine. One of the least 'bland' cars I've recently owned, and I suspect that's the case for the majority.
Totally agree, it’s anything but bland to drive - very quick away from lights in the town, very rapid overtaking acceleration, the one pedal driving makes it a joy to drive. We take it over my Vantage every time.

Seriously struggling to understand how this thing is supposed to compete in the segment
It's a Tesla. They're not perfect, but they're ultimately the best choice of EV in many circumstances. And it's got a charge curve that'll knock your socks off.

Presumably named on the basis of 'Y the fk would anyone buy one compared to the other 7 seat electric/PHEV SUVs on the market?'

To be honest I was thinking the exact opposite!Seriously struggling to understand how this thing is supposed to compete in the segment

Test drove the M3 a few month back, after being a total sceptic I came away thinking it was a game change for A to B transportation. Problem is, I want something that’s better at carrying the dog, family and bikes - enter the model Y.
I have booked a test drive in the model Y just so that my wife can come and see it before we buy one. I genuinely can't understand why anyone is buying an ICE car now for anything other than track use.
Before everyone chimes in with "well you can't do 1000km in one go without stopping". Neither can you in an ICE car because your bladder gives up first, and b) you can, because I have done it in a Model 3 LR in roughly the same time it would have taken me in my ICE car.

How did you book the test drive? Did you call up as no option online to book a Model Y. Before everyone chimes in with "well you can't do 1000km in one go without stopping". When I spoke with Tesla recently they said there are very few Model Y demonstrators in the UK until mid Dec.
Loved the Model 3 LR but need the Y size to replace an XC60.

I considered the Y LR as an alternative to an XC90 T8 but the Volvo spanks it hands-down, even with the c £20k price premium
Spanks it in what way? XC90 :
- Slower acceleration
- More expensive to run
- Depreciates more
- More expensive to buy
Less well equipped
Worse build quality
No one cares about 5.5 vs 4.8 sec 0-60 time for the family estate car
