Tesla's sales model is that they will only sell through their own dealer network and not through any of the big multi make dealerships.
This has fallen foul of the powerful auto dealers association who have had a monopoly on new car sales for decades.
In many states if you are a manufacturer you can't sell your cars directly to the public, they can only be sold through a dealership that is a member of the auto dealers association. This goes against Tesla who want to cut out this mandatory middleman from their sales and not have the dealers associations mark up added to the final cost of the car.
It was the same in New Mexico until a few days ago, when the first Tesla showroom opened in Nambe. The loophole?, it's on sovereign tribal land where state law doesn't apply. hehe

Time for a road trip up north, and as the wife is Cherokee I'm hoping she can get a discount biggrin

It’s absolutely ridiculous that this is the case in some states. Good on Tesla for getting around this one though. rofl

Crazy policy isn't it - for a country with such a huge focus on the ideal of freedom they have a lot of states with weird laws.

If you could use your wifes heritage to get a discount on a Tesla that'd make you a renegade.

It's always struck me that finding loopholes when you're taking on law makers is a daft thing to do. Aren't Tesla giving two fingers to Texas over how they sell their cars at the same time they're looking for handouts and support over their factory from the very same people? Doesn't seem to be the smartest way to act if thats right.
