Ok, I had a look, couldn't find anything on here about this but the "Plaid" version of the Tesla Model S has appeared on their website.

https://www.tesla.com/en_gb/models

Allegedly 1.99 seconds to sixty, and if that isn't enough there is a Plaid Plus that will have even more power than the 1020 bhp the normal Plaid has and be even quicker.

Plaid is American for Tartan and its a reference to the Star Wars Spoor "Spaceballs", which is where the Insane and Ludicrous references also came from, I think they have run out of Spaceballs speed names now though, to be fair I am not sure where they can go from there to be honest.

They have tweaked the styling and interior and it does look rather smart, and you can go out with all the family laying waste to superbikes apparently as it will do a quarter mile in less than 9 seconds which is in F1 car territory and faster than a Chiron, be interesting to see if it matches those claims.

For the plodders amongst us, there is still the Long Range model option, which takes a leisurely 3.1 seconds to drag its hefty self to 60.

I think Elon is getting a bit carried away with the speed thing but its ended up as a party piece for a luxury saloon rather than the reason it exists.

Position of that screen for rear occupants is terrible. My kids would be chundering in minutes.

I also like that the estimated delivery date is just a year; 2022. Not even confident enough to predict what part of the year they might be able to deliver them.

Isn't this the version that set the low 7 minute Nurburgring time recently?

Quite honestly, you would need to be staunchly anti-EV not to be impressed by a big, comfy 5 seat saloon car that does 0-60 in under 2 seconds. That's only a second or so slower than a top fuel dragster, for heaven's sake.

According to the website, the Plaid + version has a range of 520 miles as well, which ironically is way beyond anything an IC car of anything like the performance can get near (that I can think of, anyway).

One trick pony? Perhaps. But so are muscle cars, and most of us love them.

Also a 500+ mile range which I thing is the biggest advantage. If I was wealthy I’d happily have one as a daily just to experience the warp factor, then have some nice ICE classics for weekend driving fun.

Hence the built in puke holders between the rear seats? £130k + bits or ~£1700pm lease, think I'll be a late adopter tbh

Ohh FFS, what is it about moderation on PH that anything EV related gets flushed into the EV forum.

Ferrari based breadvan, not in the Ferrari subforum.

BMW M5, not in the BMW M subforum.

Porsche Taycan RWD on sale in the UK, in General Gassing, not EV subforum.

Tesla thread, hmm, straight into EV subforum !!!!

At least be consistent.

Well, this is certainly the place.

I suspect this is the drivetrain intended for the new roadster?

I know what you mean. Modding has been rather strange recently. Some interesting threads started which appeal to loads of PHers get flushed away to the boonies never to be read again.

Right numbers, wrong units. Top fuel is going 0-100mph in about 0.9 sec, but does so in 60 feet.

imho Elon has to find some new selling point to keep the hype going and Tesla fans love their gadgets and computer jiggery pokery so this is right on the money.

The new front end, whilst subtly revised, looks much better, as do the new wheel designs.

Ditto the black window frames, which make the car appear lower as well.

The new dash is miles better, but what were they thinking with the steering wheel? I think Elon spent too long on the PlayStation.

0-60 time is not from a standing start, it's with a 1 foot rollout. Expect 2.2 seconds for a normal 0-60 from standing.

Not exactly slow but a bit of a desperate move to get the time under 2 seconds.

It's such a boring looking car and that steering wheel certainly wouldn't work for me! As for the screens hurl

They're also slated for their build quality and driving dynamics i.e. they are a computer which happens to drive around rather that being a car first and foremost.

Unlucky. You almost managed Tesla Bingo in one post, just missed out on mentioning "white goods" and "fanbois". smile

Never mind though, now you're here it'll be good to hear more about your personal experiences of driving Tesla's and EV's in general as I'm sure it'll be far more interesting than the usual hackneyed posts we get from people just parroting what they've read on the internet..

I am a little confused the long range and Plaid show range is 400 miles which is the same as before?

But the Plaid plus is over 500 miles? Can’t find anything about a bigger battery? If that’s real I could do a U turn and go back to Tesla.
