Private used Model S - Tesla Warranty
Discussion
I normally buy used car from trade dealers rather than private individuals as I feel (rightly or wrongly) that I will be able obtain redress if there is something wrong with the car.
However, I am tempted by the following 2016 Model S from a private individual as it seems good value.

It looks like the owner purchased it second hand from Tesla with their 4 years Used Vehicle Limited Warranty about 6 months ago.
The advert states that the balance of the warranty is transferable to the new owner - is this correct? If so, this would give me some peace of mind.
I wouldn't mind paying for an independent inspection for further peace of mind - would the AA/RAC inspection be useful for this or is there a Tesla specialist who could provide this service?
It seems strange that the owner is selling the car after 6 months of ownership but their circumstances may have changed and hence the sale.
Thanks.

Yes you can transfer the warranty to yourself as new owner.
See the info on Tesla's own website, "For further details, please review the Used Vehicle Limited Warranty."

That would be the first question. However, I am tempted by the following 2016 Model S from a private individual as it seems good value.

I imagine a lot of people jump into an EV and then after a few months realise it doesn't really fit their lifestyles after all or circumstances have changed?
At the moment there are some fairly obvious reasons why someone would want to dump an expensive asset though aren't there? Going to take a significant loss on selling compared to the the back end of last year I'd imagine but if they need the money ASAP what else can they do?

It’s only been listed a few days and they’re dropping the price daily (it started at £40,500 on 18/3)

If you can get the vin from the seller I should be able to find the Tesla details for you from when it was on sale by them to confirm the 6 month warranty. Email me via Tesla-info if you prefer,
