Tesla Model 3 - make a call pain?

OK, so just picked up a Model 3 Long Range and a few days in and all good.
But the one thing that's annoying is that I can make a call from the steering wheel controls? I'd expect to be able to press the right hand button, bring up the phone book, scroll through with the wheel, press to dial.
Instead I have to speak, and I really dislike speaking to a car...
Is this a thing? As I've not been able to find anything in the manual and daren't ask on the Tesla forums for fear of being lynched

Ah, that's a shame as it's the one thing on the i3 which was better - easy phone book access, both from the iDrive and steering controls.
The other i3 thing which was nice was to have the A/C on or off regardless of the auto climate and a full fat ECO mode if you know you've got a long journey ahead and wanted to max the range (it'll dull the throttle response, lower the climate control). These probably aren't too important with a full charge but would be nice to have a bit more control.

You need one of each like us. TBH I find the climate on the Tesla far better than the i3. We just leave the A/C on and fan speed set to 1 and keeps the car lovely and warm.

We'd be tempted to keep the i3 but the Tesla is the replacement... If we find we never use my car then an all electric fleet could make a lot of sense, and would be tempting as the i3 is a cracking car for about town, and the general do all vehicle.TBH I find the climate on the Tesla far better than the i3. The test will be if we can, as a family of 4, go on holiday with all the kids crap - we have a tow hitch for the bike carrier so at least can take all the bikes - but if the boot was a hatch rather than a saloon it'd be a bit of a safer bet, so time will tell.
