My power steering on my week old 3R has just failed. Has this happened to anyone and any suggestions on a fix for a non mechanical owner.

Cheers,

Alan

Any other sumptoms (squeak, whining or similar)?

Have you checked the fluid level to see if its a loss of fluid? Flip the rear clam and check the smaller of the two plastic fluid reseviours.

If not pop back to your dealer and get them to check it out for you - it may be just something simple that's come adrift?

Cheers J. Had a look at engine and found what I can only assume is the power steering belt had ript and come off its cogs. Will have to try and get a new one. A scare as there are no dealers in Ireland and I thought I was going to have to head for the boat. Must learn more mechanics about my baby.

Its a Bosch belt. Anyone know if they are easy to source.

Very easy. Pop down the local motorfactor with the remains of the belt (assuming its not in 3 or 4 bits) and get them to sort you one the same size.

Didn't realise you were in Ireland!

Given that would have been a brand new belt I'm suprised it gave way so soon. If you can see the Bosch number on it as Matt says just pop down to Halfords or the local motorfactors and they'll either be able to give you a replacement or a standard "Motocraft"/OEM item. Just unlucky that it seemed to give way

I'd also give Bob Sharpe a ring at the factory (he might be there tomorrow - sometimes they answer the phone on Saturday mornings depending on who's around - if not they will be there first thing Monday morning) and they'll give you a standard part number so you can get the right one.

To re-add it you'll need to slack off one of the belt pulleys (probably the power steering one) - again Bob, or one of his mechanics, will be able to talk you through how to do it, or any decent garage will be able to work it out no problem.

If you really get stuck give me an email and I'll have a dig around on mine and send you some piccies of the appropiate bits (the 3.0l and 2.5l are different, but it should give you the idea).

This happened to me about a week after mine arrived... loud whining and difficult to steer. There was a leak in the system somehwere and the whole lot had to be replaced... it was done very quickly and apologetically mind!

Hope its an easier fix than mine.

All the best

Sam

Alan,

I'm out most of today but try and get you some pictures of my 2.5l this afternoon.

Nathan - could you do the honours with your 3.0l please?

not the greatest pics as you can't get a good angle - not even sure which side of the engine so took both:

Deleted to save bandwidth

Big files as I haven't got time to resize - I'm off out.

Hope you get it sorted.

Great! It seems that the one on the 2.5l has an "auto-tensioner" (a wheel with a big spring on it) that you just press back with your hand and then you can slip the belt on and off. I took some piccies but guess you won't need them now

I presume the 3.0l is the same?

Glad you are back on the road - anything else just shout (or check the Noble owners archive at www.nobleownersclub.net/maillists.html)

Regards,

J
