The Noble got 4.5 stars, the others 5.
Pity they didn;t bother to track the cars also to see how they fared seeing as that's what they have been honed from their standard models for.
Full drive story by Chris Harris will be in Autocar tomorrow. Without giving the game away, one of the things he's said is "If you're a potential Noble convert, try it soon. If you already own an M12, don't. The upgrade will be inevitable."
When you read the article you'll also notice that we decided to try the car without one of its signature features. It was interesting to say the least.

Did you do a back-to-back with a GTO 3R *on track* for a proper assessment of track improvements?
No, we didn't have time to do that. Chris has spent a lot of time in both the 3 and 3R though so the article is very much aimed at how the car offers improvements over the existing car on track. We also did our best to see what the actual top speed was, but I'm afraid you'll have to check out how we did in your local WHSmith's/public library for that bit. If I told you that we had the car at Bruntingthorpe then it might give you an indication as to what we were able to do in the car.
Evo did make some valid points though, I agree that some styling (especially the stuck on air scoops) leave a bit to be desired and as for the cabin gauges what good is a oil temp/pressure gauge down at the bottom of the consule, surely Noble could have fitted a proper stack or similar system.
I'm sure it drives very well and good to hear the driving position and gear selection are improved.

The point Evo have missed by the sounds of it!
Don't know, haven't read it. Don't want this to seem like I'm trying to do down Evo by the way - its a bloody good mag and I'm sure they've done a typically good job with the car.

Ahh! Sans Wing
I'f often wondered how much difference removing the mirrors would make. They generate a considerable amount of wind noise above 80mph so i would imagine must add considerably to the cd figure ?

The production version will have the oil temp/pressure gauge next to the turbo boost gauge on the central dash board.

On one trip we managed just 157 wingless and 153 winged, but on another occasion without wind (ahem), the same 3R managed 160 with the wing on.
I know Justin achieved 163 winged with less bhp.
All these speeds were 'official' (timing trap and GPS) rather than speedo indicated.
My guess is that the M400 with 22% more horses than the 3R, going wingless with no wind, it should get between 170-175 at Brunters.

I agree that a proper stack would definitely be a step forward, likely it would likely require a whole dashboard redesign I'd think? Ideally they could then move the stereo to the centre and make sure there is enough clearance above it for a fold out sat nav screen.
You can fit a stack in the existing rev counter place if you want...

You can option it up to be almost as good as the full screen ones.
