Newbie Question

Hi everyone,
Well after driving Z3s for 5 years i'm looking to trade 'wind in the hair bimmer cruising' for raw seat of the pants driving thrills...and not just because I have no hair left ..
I'm very interested in the 3R and I'll be going up to the NEC to check it out in the flesh in a few weeks. Before that I have a few questions that I hope you lucky owners can answer
1: I'd like to fit a sat nav system and like the units that have the screen that comes out. From what I understand, the 3R has the unit mounted in the dash on the passenger side rather than central console. Is there enough clearance for a screen based system like the Pioneer AVIC-X1? or should I be looking at the inbuilt smaller screen units like the Pioneer ANH-P9R?
2: What's the Track Day sump and would I need one considering 90% of use will be road based.. I'd like to do a few track days ie.. owners club events etc.
3: Any info/tips on the ordering process? i've noticed people putting down 2 deposits...how does this work?
4: Anyone use theirs every day and have any problems or regrets?
5: I appreciate the vast power hike between a 3R and my 3.0 Z3..even though in wet weather with traction off it get's lively I'd imagine the 3R is whole different world Rather than test the vehicles handling on public highways, has anyone taken theirs to a test track or performance vehicle driving weekend etc? Even on track days I'd imagine there are rules and basically I want to be able to push the vehicle without the need to worry about rules..just learn how the car reacts to different driving and different weather conditions etc ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Steve and welcome ,
I'm afraid I don't know as much as a lot of the people on here, but I'll have a go!
1. There is not a great deal of space above the CD unit (which is in front of the passenger), becasue the top of the dash protrudes over the top, in a kind of lip. A small screen may well fit, I'd imagine. (I dont have mine here to check tho!)
2. The track day sump is probably not necessarily if all your driving is on the road. It was released due to a few oil starvation issues on prolonged high G corners on trackdays, (such is the beast's cornering grip). Now, in order for your warranty to cover track use you must have one. I would think it was sensible, from a resale point of view as much as warranty worries.
3. Some people put 2 deposits, some 1. I think the first is to get on the waiting list (£1000ish) and the second when your car goes into build and the colour/spec options are confirmed) (£3000ish). Some people have paid these at the same time.
4. I use mine almost everyday 3000mls in 3 months, winter ice, spring rain, not had a summer yet... but I'm sure looking forward to it. No complaints, though I did have a niggle with the PAS, when I picked it up... replaced swiftly.
5. Running it in during winter really helped me get a feel for the traction, and the care needed when driving on zero grip! Driver training -Don Palmer??? I'm interested in the same thing to be honest... does the factory recommend anyone in particular?
Hunt- I have a feeling the warranty can be extended by the dealer.
All the best anyway. You wont regret it!!

Sam,
Your final point about driver training is something I would very much like to do. If perhaps the factory could put on a driver training day at a suitable location. I, for one, would be willing to pay a fair price for it. Suffice to say Noble ought to be profitable on the day. I would much prefer to be factory trained. Perhaps the day would start with some theory (blackboard stuff) and follow on with one to one tuition before letting us loose later. In between lunch must include Australian Crunch with mint custard. .... Is there a business opportunity here? How about it Simon?
Chris.

Break-even should suffice - why should Noble make money from this - surely, the best advertisement for them is to has us 'using' their product in public to the best of its (and, of course, our!) abilities!

I would be very interested too and would also be willing to pay a fair price.
If the factory are not interested in organising such a session, I would be willing to have a go at sorting something out !

Damn computers. Gone down for 2 days & then my network company say they are no longer in business but now trade out of the same address under a new name. True. Anyway MikeN has just come to the rescue.
Well done MikeN.
Where were we. Right, Owen, sign me up for the training.
