First California-Legal Noble hits the road!
Discussion
Hi all,
Just thought I'd let everyone know that a week ago I completed all California registration procedures and my Noble GTO 3R is now officially a California-legal street car.
It's considered a 2004 car, with 1960 emission standards (ie, it's smog exempt). There were several hoops to jump through but the registration process went as planned.
I'm getting lots of questions about the car every day-- at traffic lights, gas stations, while parking, etc, and lots of thumbs up. The Noble name will slowly be spread here .
While on the freeway, if there's a sportsbike in sight it's almost assured they'll come up and check out the car from all angles. Worst gawker I've seen so far was a car with 3 guys that pulled up parallel to the car while it was parked alongside the road, and the guys stayed there in the middle of a traffic lane looking at the car. I had visions of them getting rear-ended...
Best,
Marc
No chance to take some good pictures yet -- this early evening shot will have to suffice for now! The car is Titanium with grey/black interior.

amg merc: Well, we like to treat the posted speed limits here as more of a "suggestion"...
I'm sensing a common theme about the beach... Ok, I'll try to snap a few shots in the next couple months (not sure when I'll next get there). If possible I'll look for a beach-bunny or two to pose around the car!
Nathan - uh, 352hp, or whatever it is you guys are running there, I'm sure!
I'm thinking about entering the car at an upcoming supercar show at the Pasadena Art Center College of Design (one of the top car-design colleges in the world, I'm told). I think it has a good shot at being accepted as one of the display cars. Fingers crossed!

As I know nothing about Nobles, I have some questions. How did you get over Air Bags and ABS etc? I thought you need those in the USA and crash testing certificate. The reason I am interested is I often wonder about getting the TVR over to california as I work there a lot. But was told it was impossible other than for a rally.
In the US the Noble can only be licensed as a "kit" car or "home buld car"
The only way to import a TVR so it could be registered road legal would be to dismantle the drive train, import the chassis and install a CA legal drive train here....
Non residents may import a non US vehicle for personal use only for up to one year after which the car must be exported or destroyed...only exemptions are diplomatic personel who get permits for their personal vehicles from the State Dept.
Registration of "kit" cars is state regulated and requirements vary somewhat from state to state
Here is link to CA DMV...you will find all the information here:
