My air con on a new 3R only has (it seems) only two settings, "ok", say 70f (dial all the way to the left) and "cooking" (dial in any other position)
On the one sunny day wa have had it seemed to struggle to keep the cabin cool. Is this normal.

Struggling to keep cool isn't normal (you should be able to keep yourself "ice cold"), but it's fair to say that the air con is not your 7 sensor digital system fitted to a BMW X5 - it's a bit "variable" in getting somethig between warm and hot.

Get it looked at under warranty - there are a few adjustments that can be made to make it more "turn on and offable".

It's never been the cars strong point. I've had numerous tweaks, pokes, re-gasses and head scratching from various services and still get a coolish airflow at best. After all it's quite a battle with the heatsoak from the engine!

I know that a couple of owners have had larger fans fitted to the unit which has helped somewhat. Might be worth a mention to the dealerfactory?
