Another board member was harping on about a serious issue for a recall.

Picked my car up yesterday after its first 1000 service
and it would appear the recall is in relation to the hand brake cable on 3R's

Touch wood not to serious unless you park on very steep
hills.!!

Hmmm, so perhaps the mysterious Elemee's M12 rolled into something causing some damage?! ;-(

My mates Freelander would drop it's handbrake all the time. Apparently the problem was as common as muck, but Land Rover never did a recall, and only rectified the ones that people complained about.

Based upon my experience of Noble, IF there is an issue their attitude would be to sort it.

Many people may well have a problem and not know it.

Pretty much everyone I know leaves their car in gear when parked as well as using the handbrake (myself included).

Elemee's problem is nearly a year old isn't it so unlikely to be this? Unless of course the fact they haven't done anything until now is his point.

Nah - the dates he gave were before the 3R's were about. My 3 melted a handbrake cable which then set after I got home and stuck the handbrake on on the drivers side (subsequently rerouted and other cars done at service time from what I'm told) if that is related?

Firstly, I'd like to stress that this is not a safety recall. We are currently re-routing the handbrake cables on M12s because we have found that they are exposed to considerable heat and - under exceptional circumstances - may start to melt. We intend making the necessary modification to existing cars when they come in for periodic service or repair.

I just like to confirm the above - it is not dangerous unless you got stuck when needing to make a quick getaway (bank robbery ).

This happened to me on a Friday night and I discovered that it had set fast on the saturday morning - I rang up my dealer who was very, very helpful and once I'd got the handbrake off survived without one for a couple of days until the dealer could fit the car in.

Yet again Noble customer service proved itself to be fantastic.

Nathan, was this after you'd washed it?!

No - the plastic outer part of the cable melts and goes all gooey internally, you get home and put the hand brake on and then overnight the outside of the cable solidifies locking the metal inside part of the cable in the hand brake on position meaning you can't move the car. Certainly not dangerous as you have to leave the car stationary for a few hours to cool the cable enough for it to be a problem.

I've only washed it once anyway

...so once it cools down can you release the handbrake or is it a recovery job?!

Once it cools down the cable solidifies and locks the drivers side handbrake drum in what ever postion it was in when it cooled (normally on if the car is parked up!), in my case the handbrake was stuck on and it wouldn't release.

This was about 1 week after I picked my car up (11 or so months ago now) so your car won't be affected.

The cable was routed too close to the manifold or something.
