I know this subject has been discussed before, but I've been through previous postings and can't find what I'm looking for.

I'm intening on doing quite a few trackdays this year. But after my first I was suffering from quite pronounced fade, and 'squishy pedal' despite every effort to warm down for a considerable distance.

My car is going to the factory soon anyway, and I was wondering if anyone reckoned whether the steel brake lines are essential, or if an upgrade of fluid and pad might be enough to cure the fade that I experienced last time out, (I'm not too fussed about repositioning the pedals.)

Any help exceedingly welcome.

Thanks

Sam

I know some of the guys have tried Castrol SRF, however results have been mixed i believe.

The cunifer pipes are definitely a good idea.

The factory can supply "track" pads but i'm not sure what type they are. Basically you need someone who knows what they're talking about to reply to this post

I'm sure Justin or AG will oblige in due course.

BTW I'm at Bedford on Saturday if any other Nobility are going along ?

Are you saying you don't?! Thanks for the info.
I may well go to Bedford; how much and who did you book it with? It would be an excellent way to get out of a prior engagement!

Thanks

£150 through SELOC

http://forums.seloc.org/showevent.php?eid=222

Just had a look at the list and it appears that 5 Nobles are booked in!

Looks like it is now fully subscribed but might be worth dropping them a line in case anyone has dropped out?

I see your in Northants. I'm up that way occasionally (only 20 or so miles from me) if you fancy a meet up?

Can't make Friday as am in Oxford for a friends birthday bash. Ideal preperation for the track day the following morning!

Just drop me an email though and we'll arrange a meet up for somewhere we can drive the cars back to back by way of comparison?

Reply from Seloc......

"spectators can turn up at any time - just park in the first car park and walk round as the paddock will be very busy."

Nice 1 Stuh, cheers.

p.s. sorry about the thread hijacking Sam! - it might be worth just getting the lines checked / bled first ?

Ohh...

Right, here we go....

In my knowlege brake fade is caused by;

1) The braided hoses start to "flex" under pressure and heat and create "give" in the pedal. The solid cunnifer lines sort this out.

2) The pads/discs overheat and loose effectivness resulting in longer braking distances. Track day pads (only available from Noble as they are Noble specific AP calipers) sort this out

3) The fluid "boils" in the caliper, gets bubbles in it and leads to a "squishy" pedal. A move to a different fluid can sort this out.

It has to be said that even ragging around the GT circuit at Bedford (which is very hard on the brakes) for 30 minutes at a time I don't personally suffer from brake fade - but I do get the brakes bled to solve any case of 3) after most track days - but I know others have suffered from brake fade - must be down to your track technique

Agree - have had this mod, if you can call it that, and this has sorted the problem out completely. Have to say that as a one of your compatriot (not so fast) track day enthusiasts, I couldn't believe that the brakes faded quite so much after a few laps of Rockingham. It was wet and I was taking it VERY carefully - probably only 10%-20% more than in road use - so to get fade was quite a surprise. The heavier (4.1?) brake fluid sorted it out completely.
