Right then, I've been hanging about dropping the occasional casual hint about this one, but now I'm going for the blatant plug:

Autocar will be kicking our track day series off on the 16th April at Bedford Autodrome, and our first day will be in running in tandem with the good burghers of Noble Automotive Ltd, a purveyor of fine handling and sprightly mid-engined steeds for gentlemen.

More details can be found at www.palmersport.com/autocar2004 but a few of you who came last year will know the form. £169 buys you a few hours on track, a large amount of pit lane banter in the company of Micknall, The Tea Boy and a couple of Autocar's Road Testers, and a BBQ afterwards.

We'll be bringing some of the more eclectic metal from our car park (and as we're shooting 0-100-0 the day before it really could be anything) and will be handing out flying laps and generally not being in the office writing words to our hearts content.

Ted asked me to point out that I've checked with him before posting this - you're all about to get a mailshot anyway so I thought I'd let a couple of Noble fans get in early

As Simon is out testing today, i will reply on the Factories behalf.

Once again we a really pleased to be asked back by Autocar to participate in the Friday afternoon session. We will have three of our factory cars at the event. Simon will be there from the begining with Lee and myself joining the fun around 4.

Look forward to seeing old faces again and meeting some new.

Also the organisation by Autocar and Palmersport is typically second to none.

Is this day restricted to Noble owners?

No, All comers welcome and Noble would love to see as many non owners as possible (spreads the gospel according to Lee Noble you see!).

We had everything from a Rover 800 in serious need of some attention to its shocks to a 360 spider last year.

Nice one. I might just have to let the GTR stretch it's legs then

The Ultima is the M12's older brother anyway so I'm sure it can come along

We had a couple of Ultima's last year. Andy Gladwin brought his and it ran without problems, but be aware of Bedford's noise regs - his mate's car failed the noise test in quite a spectacular fashion.

edited to add: I'd love a passenger lap in that thing if you can get it through the noise test though. It looks the absolute canine's testicles.

I'm really tempted to come along as our Noble is just around the corner now (June) and it would be great to actually meet some of the people from this site, but I'm worried I'll spend the whole day indicating left to allow faster machinery to safely pass me.

I've got a Clio 172 Cup, which would be fine on a 'Hot hatch' day, but I just don't think it can cut it in the company of Nobles and Ultimas.

Could still be fun though...

What's the limit Stuart - 98?

It passed without problems at Snett last year (CCC Article). Can't remember the reading exactly but was around 100.

Happy to give you a ride if I come along and can get onto the track

You'll be fine. In my experience the 172 and their ilk tend to give it everything because they are so much more chuckable through the bends. You might be letting some of the big stuff past on the back straight, but I bet you'll show a clean pair of heels everywhere else.

awaiting an onslaught from Noble and Ultima owners...

101 static, 87 drive-by. Bedford's noise regs are notoriously hard to get through I'm afraid. Do you have an bolt on cans? I think that's what Andy used, and with 600bhp+ you've got plenty in reserve...

Should be fine then. Was 99dB at SVA.

Just got to see if I can get away from the office that Friday.

Cheers

Stuart,

Questions - If I want to bring someone to do a few laps in my car, i.e. share the driving, do I need to book two full places, or would the "Passenger Pass" allow my 'passenger' to do a few laps? Sorry, it's not quite clear from what I've read from the site. Also, if my 'passenger' wanted some tuition in my car presumably they would be eligible to do that on a Passenger Pass?

Thanks,
Marlon.

Marlon

Probably best to call Palmersport on 01403 733999 for clarification on this. I confess to not being entirely up to speed on the rules myself - we're very much at the mercy of Palmersport I'm afraid.

As will I! NSX should be ready for some action by then, otherwise may pop along in the Mini. Looking forward to another run in a Noble.

yeah Steve, will be good to see you in either car (preferably the Honda!) although I must admit I'll miss that Tiv hanging the back end out all over the place.

Justin - was it your car that was supposed to arrive on a trailer from Noble last year? Everything OK this time around I trust?

They've made a couple of changes to the track at Bedford - has anyone driven it recently? They've basically made West 8 (left hander at the start of the long straight) a bit less prone to catching out all those E46 owners who do three laps and think they're Chris Harris at the Autocar Sideways Challenge....
