the PH article actually said:
We were told at the show that the price starts at just £70K for the basic model. If all cars come with the build quality seen in the show cars then Farboud will have no problem justifying that price tag and could soon have a very healthy order book. The balls out 580bhp model will retail for £150,000

So where did you get £60k from?

It looks nice, but has anyone ever driven it. Power is nothing without control, and at 1200kg it's going to need a lot more than 400bhp to get near the Nobles PWR jacking the price into 360 territory.

So - probably a better comparison would be to a 360.

I think Mr Porsche might have something to say (again?) about some of the styling cues.

Speak to Noble Engineering (who make the engines). 500+bhp is easily achieveable, but at significant costs (forged pistons, new crank.... new almost everything except the block).

If the base car is 70k and the 580bhp model for 150k then thats 80k difference between the base "400ish" one - about £330 per bhp! If you throw 70k Noble's way I am sure you can pretty much have the power you want... (with NoS thrown in as well!)

Give is some NOS my son!

Seriously, £150K for the balls-out model? I can't see them shifting many of those, not with competiton from the Gallardo, Stradale, Ford GT (if you can get one) and Porsche GT3. And anyway, we ain't seen the finished M400 yet!

Just seen this on the Motoring News forum re the Farboud story:

There is an article in this months EVO (page 19) to say they aren't going to be making the GTS after all, because they think the Garlardo/360S is a much better car for £150K, and will take away a lot of their potential sales. Instead they are aiming to plug the gap left by the demise of the Esprit & are aiming for a £60k car, but are now going to use a 350bhp version of Fords 4.6 V8

A trifling 350bhp from 4.6 litres! PAH!

I must admit, my money would be going to Noble without a second thought.

From what I remeber (appologies if I'm way of the mark). Farboud is the idea of Arish Farboud(sp) who made a load of cash after selling his parents pharamcy company. I think originally they had a few lotus guys onboard.

At least the £60-70K is getting in the right ball park compared to the original idea of £150K . Although I think its still about £20K overpriced

Cheers

Joust,

You do seem to have you name down for a lot of exciting up and coming cars, the AMV8 for instance.

Do you plan on getting all these, or is it a case of keeping your options open?

I do seem to have a lot on order, but they are nicely staggered.

The Marcos turns up in March.
The GTC will be a swap for the current M12 GTO.
The AMV8 or whatever will be sometime 2005 - probably 2006 when I take delivery and so we'll see.

I haven't put any deposit down (despite one of the dealers being cheaky and asking for a large deposit), and when I checked with the AMOC it was still going ahead.

Reminds me - I might wander down to my local dealer and ask them some more questions....

Coincidentally I spoke to my local Aston Martin dealer just this morning about the V8 Vantage and they haven't heard anything to suggest that it isn't going ahead.

They want a 3K (refundable) deposit, which would get me one from them in 2008, assuming first deliveries start in 2005. It must be an excellent dealer you're in touch with if they don't want any money.

My brother was invited to the AMV8 launch and he is on the list - did not have to pay anything they said they would contact him when required.

Joust - swap for a GTC - surely with a rather hefty cheque as well!

Indeed - most "old" customers haven't been asked for a deposit...... I'd suggest that if the dealer you are talking about has a number associated with it, then that's the one that also tried to take money off me - tell them to stuff it and goto a "real" AM dealer...

Ah - another potential "how do you finance your cars" thread perhaps coming on. Suffice to say no, there won't be any large cheques involved.

Are this old gem

www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?t=59192&f=23&h=0&hw=finance

entertaining and informative.

I ended up looking at the fool and Santa bought me "The Motley fool UK investment guide" an eye opening read.

Any chance of popping along to one of the Essex MOC meetings (every 3rd Sunday of the month - near Chelmsford). Love to see the car, might even buy you a pint!
