Standard 6 speed 'box
Discussion
A sequential gear box (straight cut gears) will be so noisy for road use you will not be able to hear yourself think. Great for pure track and racing use.
I personally only use first pulling away from a complete standstill. Otherwise the engine has enough torque to use second gear.
I think the first 4 ratios are perfect for acceleration, (close) with 5th and 6th ideal for motorway.
I remember racing a mini cooper S with straight cut drop gears, full straight cut box and lsd diff. Boy did that whine.
Cheers,
Ian.

Guys
I just meant that the 6 speed manual box which was an option is, apparently, now relacing the 5 speeder as standard fit; a nice saving.
I don't want no straight cut gears, they would scare me!
Sam
...is it a saving though - or will the list price be increased (it had better do or I want my £1800 I paid for a 6-speeder option back!!!)?
It appears to be a saving, in that my car is about to go into the factory & I've been told that I'll get the 6-speed for free: I'd been quoted something in the region of £2k extra before.
I suspect that Noble is trying to streamline the production by reducing the number of non-standard cars - and that pretty much everyone is going for the 6 now.

You've opened a can of worms Sam.
oops, anyway... dum-dee-dum (whilstling distractedly).
What's that Autocar review like then Marlon? Lets talk about something else, pehaps no one will notice.
Sam
Its sorted (and fast!) - see the factory positioning message on this!

Quaif also do a synchro option so it is not all clunk click. I was gopher for a friend who raced the Mini Miglia series - that dog bog was noisy.
Just think a car like the Nole deserves a sequential box.

Hugo,
Who told you that you were getting this for free? Was it someone at the factory or your dealer. My car is at the factory this week also being upgraded with the 6 speed gearbox but I have had to pay .
Thanks
Den
My dealer told me; however, it's kinda hard to work out how much I'm actually paying for the car because mines not anywhere near actual list price:
- no leather (I prefer the alcantara) - less
- no 3R wheels (I prefer the old ones) - less
- no stereo/speakers (empeg being fitted instead) - less
- custom paint - more
So it's possible I could be wrong!
