Lost Reverse Gear !!!!!!!!!

Picked the car up friday,now has 260 miles on the clock,of which I have only driven 135 and I have NO reverse gear!!!! All other gears ok,but unable to engage reverse gear.Was perfectly ok one minute and then nothing!!Even though i'm pushing far enough across,past the resistant point for reverse,when I push up it just slips back across into 1st?? Spent about an hour trying and finally given up,but worried in the meantime if my dealer won't collect I may lose the other gears on the way up to them!!

Edited to say: Fogot to say, it's a 6-speed box

Unlikely to be the gearbox faulty , probably cable adjustment required .

The gear linkage is the two thick blue cables that run from the front centre of the engine bay, over the induction manifold and onto the gearbox on the near-side of the car. Check that nothing has come loose there.

This doesn't help your problem, but...
With my GTO3 I was advised to select reverse by going into 5th (clutch down, obviously) and straight into reverse. This didn't seem to work at all and I found the best way is to come along from the side and down 90 degrees.

Car has just been collected by a couple of guys from HR Owen and taken back to the delership. They managed to find reverse after a lot of effort but agreed it's definately not right. They also agreed with my thoughts that there is too much free play across the gate, it's not sloppy finding gears just a tad loose. Maybe it's all linked, i'll just have to wait and find out.
