This weeks autoexpress has a super car shoot out between:

3R, GT3, CSL and T350c

interesting read. figures quoted for 3R 0-60/0-100 are 3.7 sec/8.8 sec !!!

3R comes first followed by GT3

Cheers

Thanks Michael, on my way to the newsagents!

Does it say that they actually got the cars on a track with testing equipment as these figures are rather good?!

From my speed read in the local library (aka WHSmiths) it did sound like they had put them on the track. They also came up with a number of of figure 60-0, 30-70 e.t.c, so i assume they tested these?

Only mistake I could find was the fact in the performance table they use a picture of a 3 not 3R

Cheers

Presumably you're refering to the state-sponging pikey trailer trash doley scum with more kids than I've had hot dinners?

Note: my apologies to pikey trailer trash - you're hard working upstanding citizen's compared to that lot on TV last night.

indeed I am

Calmed down a bit now. Don't think I will be able to bring myself to watch that program again.

Yup, just read the very entertaining "Wife Swap" thread on General Gassing - some very true words spoken alas not in jest. In the good old days disease, poverty and world wars would have taken care of that lot...unfortunately under the current labour government every week is like winning the lottery for people like that...makes my blood boil!

...certainly makes you realise that there's something very very wrong with this country.

So back to the AutoExpress article...

They sure like Nobby - a comprehensive thrashing!

I have some comments/questions maybe the the factory could comment?:

1. They complain about the sticky gearshift "especially in first" - (and we spend £1800 on this option!) - comments?!
2. Excessive pedal travel (I'd have thought that the factory would have provided the newly modified version?).
3. Lot's of wind noise - does anyone else get this?
4. Say's 1st (6,000 mile) service is free - is it?!
5. Say's takes 38.2m to stop from 60mph - not too impressive considering the brake design?!
6. Says it has xenon lights - does it?!
7. Notice the stick-on front number plate - good for airflow no doubt but MV told me that this would devalue the car due to paint damage - comments?

All-in-all a winner - the press love this beastie (and I thought it was just the Autocar boys!)!
Cheers.

Just wait until we do the full road test on the 3R. Figures are in the can and I believe we're publishing it over the next couple of weeks. We do carry out the most exhaustive testing of any of the magazines, so I'm sure that the factory will be as interested in seeing the figures as we will.

By the way (ahem, gratuitous plug ahead) on our new website, under the wallpapers section (keep going through them, it's reasonably far back) there is a lovely picture of the red 3R that we took to Italy for PCOTY on the edge of grip. Available in a number of sizes and currently my favourite wallpaper. This is the car that I managed to have a quick lunchtime play in and the very car that we have used for the road test. Web address has already been posted, so no need for me to do so again :-)

Operator error. Took ages to "reprogram" my brain about the shift pattern - but whilst it's not the most refined shift I've never really found it "sticky".

Yes - above about 130 it gets a bit noisy (check out the brunters VMAX videos) - but up to 70-80 can't say I've noticed.

Switching back to "that" Wife Swap program(!), I hear that it'll be repeated on TV sometime tonight for those, like me, who missed it the first time...

Keeping with the Noble discussion, and wind noise. I certainly know when I break the 100mph mark as there is a lot of sudden wind noise from what appears to be the door seals. May be prerssure related, the first time it was quite a shock. Anone else get this or is it just dodgy seals on my car?

... and, aparently, it doesn't work too well either!

I suggested using the roll-bar as one giant aerial...

What copy of Autoexpress is this?

Went to buy a copy today (tried 3 different newsagents), and the only ones on sale were dated September 17th and featured the new Golf on the front cover.

Not sure - it's an option to have it retro fitted.

Me - I just use CD's at the moment - but I am looking to put a "bee sting" antenna on the back of the car, if I can work out how to get the cable from the front to the back.
