One thing that I know is going to bug me with the Noble - the headlights. I am a Xenon convert (my 993 had such poor headlights it wasnt even true), has anybody looked at upgrading their lights to HID / Xenon?? For me it was the best money I had spent on upgrades for the 993 by far. Made night time driving so much more relaxing.

I bought the kit (genuine Phillips H1 fitment) for my 993 from here:

www.autolamps-online.com

They do a wide range of fitting, what fitment is the Noble if I want to look to do something similar?

Thanks
Eric

Eric, I don't know what lighting fitments the 3R uses (from what I've seen, the main beam appears to be a projector light type fitting, but a 3R owner can obviously confirm). The 3 uses H4 bulbs with dipped/main beam filaments in the one bulb.

Does the HID conversion kit use the existing lamp housing and lenses?

It did on the 993 - just involved fitting a ballast to provide electrical current for strike up, a tiny amount of splicing of the wiring loom, and attaching the bulbs to the exisitng housing. Lenses and all other bits remained the same. Beam pattern was fine, and never had a problem with MOTs etc (even though strictly speaking it has to have self levelling to be road legal). Best part was it was totally reversible.

Most cars of this price range come with HID systems now, and apart from the main benefit for me of much improved lighting quality, I think it makes the car 'look' a lot better from the outside.

I actually sell the kits....I can get 4300,5000,6000,7000 or even 8000k bulbs. Someone would need to confirm the headlight used on a 3R as it won't be in any book I've ever seen hahaha. Some bulbs are phillips some are european assembled...same thing for ballasts. Best of all NO SPLICING NEEDED! Go back to stock whenever you want! I have a set on my clk 430, ml320 and even my ducati monster!

A typical 8000k setup will sell for $500 us dollars that is, but I have a direct source in finland that will have cheap shipping to all of europe. If anyone wants some email me at m3jeremy@hotmail.com.

Obviously if I get a Noble I plan on putting some in first thing!

Do you think there is a kit for the original head lights? - i.e. non projector type similar to S1 Elise.

No matter what headlight you have there is a kit! It is merely a matter of finding out what bulb you use. Since I don't have access to them like you guys do......maybe someone could take their bulbs out to make sure what you need.

This is even more reason for me to go ahead and order my Noble! hehehe

"The 3 uses H4 bulbs" That is the original headlight...correct? I quoted from above.

Jeremy, yep - definitely H4 on the GTO3(I double checked a set of bulbs to make sure).. I'm interested in upgrading to HID - could you please let me know how much you could supply them for. Cheers.

So you guys buy a lightweight car, then add weight?

I would try a better bulb like the PIAA's first.

Piaa's are no doubt very high quality bulbs! I have them in my CLk's fog lights, but they really don't match the output of true xenon's.

Hey they add approximately 2lbs of weight, but use only 35 watts of power vs 55 for halogen.....so you add weight but get more horsepower??? = balance hahaha

Actually I think 2lbs may be on the high side hahaha they really are quite small/lightweight. The only thing that you are adding is the ballast. You take out one bulb and put in another so no change there.

I think I can lose 2lbs by staying off the pies for a week or so, so overall no weight gain and better lights . Bargain!
