I was wondering if anybody knows what was the standard radio system fitted to the 3Rs ? Is it still the Sony CDX-M630 ?

Yeah, it's fitted as standard with the CDXM 630, however I have asked for mine to be replaced with the CDX-M850MP which supports the control stalk fitted, and also plays MP3 discs.

Oh yeah, another thing - have you got a "release date" for R32 yet?? I've not had a confirmed date yet, but I guess it must be getting close by now.

But the standard model comes with a remote control, right? I was thinking of velcro-ing it somewhere near the driver.

Standard model comes with a "stalk" remote control, which I believe is fitted to the steering column. I think the Sony code is RM-X4S. I checked with Sony at the time of specification of the MP3 head unit that it was supported.

Yes. Mine (with std Sony CDX M630) was delivered with a remote control rather than the stalk control (when I asked I was told that Sony had binned the stalk control in favour of a remote).

You can get the SONY stalk control for £25 from Halfords, and fix it to the standard 3R radio kit.

I first tried the velcro approach but found it too dangerous fiddling around with the remote when driving. The stalk is a lot easier to use.

I've got the stalk with my 2.5 and couldn't imagine having to play around with the remote - very dangerous (mine came with both).

The joystick is called a RM-X4S if I remeber correctly and seem to be available for £18.99 at www.unbeatable.co.uk/CatalogueItem_9838.html

Justin, how did you fit the stalk - did you have to take any panels out?

My 3 came with stalk and remote controls, thought that was standard on the Sony unit.

Sorry, it was fitted when I got the car, but it just screws into the side of the housing behind the main wheel and the cable neatly runs around the back to the stereo.

I don't have my car around but someone else should be able to take a piccie for you to show you how it works.
