Need new engine/rebuild gutted

Hi

Found out that my engine, after only 15k miles, has given up the ghost (excessive wear of the bores on 5 of the 6)

Has been suggested that need new engine, but rebuild hopefully cheaper... still been advised that looking at £8k of work (incl rebuild).Worth doing turbos at same time? BTW 02 plate, 2.5l with 6spd, ltd slip

Any recommendations of who, or if above price is realistic?

Pretty sure a new 3L engine from the states is cheap, dunno fitting costs though?

£8K sounds VERY expensive!!!!
While it's no small feat, I also can't begin to imagine why it should be "that" expensive?

worth a look at getting a modded 3L motor sent over, much cheaper than over here for tuning work.

USA engine...£2400 brand new 3L with forged pistons etc.
Delivery around £300, then vat and duty.

Drop a line to Obes - he got his 2.5l rebuilt by some chap and it was one hell of an engine after. About 2-3k from memory.

Think Obes was about 4.5k also you can get the 3l from the US as suggsted but u can have the 2.5 looking block that is a 3l.

Although I have not confirmed it for myself, I have heard that AER does not currently have a stock of U.S. Noble motors.

Does the £8k include removal, refitting, new or recon turbo's, setting up etc? I recall from another thread on a similar topic that when much lower numbers were quoted they were for a base engine, supply only, and by the time it is installed and running the cost is much higher.

I think another chap had his done after the engine broke and his bill was into 5 figures.

Back in the olden days when Noble still looked at Customer cars they changed my car from a 2.5 to a 3L - engine, gearbox, turbo's, LSD and brake lines were all done at once (oh and I think the fuel tank had to be changed as well from memory) I didn't get much change from 18k..... this was in 2003 I think before the US was up and running in the Noble arena.

oh and before any one asks the original quote was around 10K (which at the time was cheaper than changing the car to new 3L from what stealers were offering). The cost rapidly spiralled - I beleive that my car was one of the first to have this conversion done so I was a bit of a guinea pig.......

can someone please tell me how an engine with 15k on it can be so knackered.even if it was tracked on a regular basis i would expect better than 15k.was it run low on oil or water?

Easy,
If it’s a daily user it may not be warmed up as carefully as you might like,
Piston slap in cold bores will soon take its toll.
A daily short trip commute can easily take more out of an engine than a thoroughly warmed track thrashed car.

In 3 years probably only 5 track days, car driven mainly only at weekends and probably for no more than a hour or two. (Always make sure car is warm before pushing it).
